Coach Alex Isabirye suffered another nightmare with Kirinya Jinja SS as his team were pegged to their sixth consecutive stalemate at Bugembe stadium.

Substitute Moses Ndawula drove in a stunning shot five minutes to time as the visitors edged closer to a lucky victory in a match well dominated by Kirinya Jinja.

Ashman Arishah had made a long clearance in front of goal which Musa Docca brushed to meet James Kasibante on the far end of the hosts goal. The former Bul winger calmed the ball and opted to set up Ndawula whose first time shot flew past a helpless Joel Mutakubwa.

Kirinya stepped up the attack with the late introduction of new signing Godfrey Mubiru who later on fell on the path of a loose ball from a goal melee and tapped in for the equaliser.

Coach Alex Isabirye could not finish the match and decided to walk to the changing room even before the ball was restarted. He later hinted on a possible resignation following the recent setback.

“I just don’t know what to say,” he told ChimpSport. “I have tried all I can to help the team, we created tonnes of chances as witnessed but the goals are still scarce.”

“I am now going to sit down and review the situation, consult my friends and other stakeholders and then decide on the next course of action.”

The stalemate stagnates both teams on 15th and 11th positions respectively while Kirinya now equal Proline for the most number of draws registered in the league.

The National Resistance Movement Diaspora League has donated one ton of posho flour to the hunger stricken people of Isingiro district.

Last week the opposition Forum for Democratic Change party became the first political group to offer food support to the thousands of people in the Western district who have been battling a lengthy dry spell.

On Tuesday this week, the ruling party’s Diaspora league under the leadership of Patrick Asiimwe mobilized and sent food and 100 tree seedlings to Kakinga parish which is said to be the most affected area.

The food and the tree seedlings were delivered by the group’s member, Mr. Robert Kageme Nsubuga who represented Asimwe currently in the United Kingdom.

The donation was handed over to the sub county Local Council III Chairperson, Mr. Silver Mugisha.

Speaking at the donation event, Mr. Kageme said the adverse effects of climate change have significantly and negatively impacted on the food production in different parts of the country and highlighted a need to embrace forestation.

“Uganda has for long been the food basket in the region feeding people in South Sudan, Rwanda and DRC. Climate change effects are subduing our agricultural productivity and we need to plant more trees to survive,” He said.

“The NRM Diaspora league and all members are strongly behind initiatives like forestation and the President’s initiative of introducing solar powered pumps for irrigation and will look at supporting those plans to fight drought,” he added.

Govt Urged to Provide Basic Needs for UPE Learners

Government has been challenged to invest more in its Universal Primary Education (UPE) by providing food and other basic requirements if the program is to have a significant impact.

Former Makerere University Chancellor Prof. Mondo Kagonyera said that while government has made efforts to offer free education to Ugandans, majority of the children still go to school on empty stomachs which makes it difficult for them to concentrate on learning.

“A kid who is unhealthy and hungry cannot benefit from UPE. Government must make the required interventions by providing meals for these children,”

Prof. Kagonyera said on Thursday at Century Cinemax Acacia while attending a premiere of ‘Cornerstone’, a documentary film about Nyaka, a charity project offering free but quality education for children in Kanungu district.

The long serving politician added that failure to address issues of good nutrition in the early childhood development affects their wellbeing in later stages of life. Mondo challenged government to draw lessons from what Nyaka has done by providing among other things sanitary pads to girls as a way of reducing the school dropout rate which is currently high in UPE schools.

Jackson Twesigye Kaguri, the founder of Nyaka project underscored the critical role of education in the transformation of any country.

“I could not give much to my community but by giving free education to those vulnerable children, it changed a lot,” Twesigye said.

The State Minister of Primary Education Hon. Rosemary Seninde who was the chief guest at the screening of the film lauded Nyaka for the work done far in helping the less fortunate.

“Many children have dropped out of school due to hunger. Government has done its best but it isn’t enough. New policies which are aimed at ensuring children stay in school have been formulated,” the Minister said.

Government Launches Meningitis Immunization Campaign

Ministry of health in collaboration with World Health Organization and the United Nations Children Fund will conduct a mass meningitis immunization campaign in 39 high risk districts across the country.

The vaccination campaign will take place from the 19th to 24th January 2017 according to the Health Ministry’s Director General Health Services Prof Anthony  Mbonye.

The selected high risk districts are Abim, Adjumani, Agago, Alebtong, Amolater, Amudat, Amrta , Arumu,Apac, Arua, Buliisa, Dokato, Gulu, Hoima, Kaabong, Kaboka, Kole, Kotida, Lamwo, Lira, Maracha, Masidi, Moroto, Moyo, Nakapiripirit, Napak, Nebbi, Nwoya, Omoros, Otoke, Oyam, Pader, Soroti, Yumbe and Zombo.

“The preventive immunization campaign is focusing on the greater northern Uganda and parts of western Uganda because they lie in the meningitis belt of Sub Sahara Africa, which has experienced frequent outbreak of meningococcal meningitis epidemic leading to high mortality and morbidity in the population,” Prof Anthony Mbonye said while addressing the media on Friday at the Ministry.

Meningococcal meningitis is a bacterial form of meningitis that affects the thin layer of membrane covering the brain and spinal cord, and can cause brain damage and death in 50 percent of cases if not treated.  Usually infants are more at risk.

According to Mbonye, the dusty winds and cold nights which characterize the period between December and June in the meningitis belt increase the risk of meningitis.

Transmission of the meningitis is further facilitated by overcrowded housing and large population displacement.

“Vaccination is one of the key strategies that government of Uganda is implementing in the roadmap to attainment of the sustainable development goals which underline the need for good health and well being”.

“The health sector has made good progress in child immunization increasing from DPT3 coverage of 97percent and is expected to increase even further with this preventive campaign”

A man who claimed in 2009 that he was sexually molested by Pastor Robert Kayanja of the Rubaga Cathedral has confessed he lied and apologized.

Moses Muwanguzi went to the church on Friday night and begged to be forgiven for maligning the man of God. He said he was misled and paid by other pastors to taint the name of Mr Kayanja.

According to Kayanja’s own Channel 44 Television, last night during overnight prayers Muwanguzi came up to the pulpit together with his mother and another of his siblings, to tell the whole story.

“He apologized to the pastor for all the false accusations he made against him, though excused himself that he was working as a puppet with the control in some people’s hands,” the TV Channel reported.

“This man read a long list of pastors who he says were financing him to do what he did.”

Mr Muwanguzi was back in May last year, found guilty of corruption and conspiring to destroy Kayanja’s name and profession by the Kampala Anti Corruption Court.

He was found by Grade One Magistrate Agnes Alum to have fabricated evidence and destroying evidence. He pleaded guilty to the charges.

Before his conviction, he confessed to have been misled by his co-accused, Ibrahim Nsubuga, to tarnish Pastor Kayanja’s name by portraying him as a homosexual.

During yesterday’s confession according to Channel 44, Muwanguzi’s mother fells down on the floor and rolled as his son confessed before the packed church.

“Pastor Kayanja and his wife also at the pulpit joined by his wife and kids and (shed) tears at the memory of the humiliation they were accorded from the general public. He however, forgave and blessed this gentleman’s family and prophesied prosperity upon him.”

Woman’s Cry: ‘Rwenzururu Militia Kidnapped My Husband’

At the age of 30, Jocelyn Masika, has six kids.

A resident of Nyarukamba village in Kazingo Sub-county, Kabarole district, Masika is a coffee businesswoman.

She has agents in Nyabuswa Township who deliver coffee to her store before transporting it to Kampala.

“We use trucks to deliver coffee in Kampala. The Baganda send us money as soon as they receive the product,” says Masika.

Her husband Wilson Kitibitu, 40, deals in the same trade.

The township has for the last ten years been relying on the couple to have its coffee sold to the capital city.

Revenues from coffee sales have boosted household incomes and enabled parents send their kids to school.

It’s due to this community empowerment that Kitibitu was voted area LC 1 chairman.

On a chilly afternoon this past week, Kitibitu was attending to customers at his shop in Nyabuswa when he received a call on his cell phone to pick coffee.

That’s was the last time he was seen.

“My husband was for long suspected of reporting criminals to authorities since he was the area chairperson. Yet, this was not true,” Masika told ChimpReports when we met in Nyabuswa this week.

“But none of us expected a kidnap. We thought he would reconcile with his enemies. In fact they befriended him,” she narrated.

“May be he thought they had forgotten.“

Earlier, a soldier was killed in the town.

The militia would later resist arrest of the alleged perpetrators in a deadly battle that left dead bodies in the town.

It was alleged that Kitibitu had briefed authorities about the killers. It was not a surprise that he was eventually taken.

Threat

“Following the soldier’s death, the Rwenzururu militia openly threatened my husband’s life. They would publicly warn him, ‘you are a traitor; we will soon come for you,’” recounted Masika.

“They called him to collect coffee from Kaburanzo. That’s when he was captured,” she cried.

It is alleged the chairman was picked by Mugisha Bikoba and Yona – both sons of Eriya Sibendiire.

The armed forces recently captured Sibendiire, who fought in the 1962 Rwenzururu rebellion.

He is said to be the supreme leader of the Kirumira Mutima militia.

As Masika narrated the horrible ordeal, Sibendiire was being interrogated by security a few metres away.

Major Fred Kitatamuyima, who commands UPDF operations in the area, says the hunt for Bikoba and Yona is underway in the Mountains.

“We don’t know whether he is alive. But one of the area leaders who escaped from the militants said Kitibitu was tied to a tree for a while night,” said Kitatamuyima.

The captured local leader’s kids were attending school at Kazingo but Masika is worried their breadwinner may never be seen alive again.

“I am terrified. Since last Tuesday, I have had sleepless nights. The disappearance of my husband broke my heart,” she sobbed.

Gently, she uses a cloth to wipe tears from her swollen bloodshot eyes.

“I am not sure whether he is alive given the rate at which they were threatening his life,” she cries. “My heart is cut.”

Kabarole RDC Stephen Asiimwe said security forces have since restored peace in the area, adding, “The situation is getting back to normal.”

Maj Kitatamuyima maintains his security forces will not rest until Kitibitu is recovered.

Uganda Premier League
The Saints 0-1 Onduparaka

Barely a day after being crowned the Airtel Fufa male footballer of the year, Mohammad Shaban continued his celebrations in Bombo helping Onduparaka earn a hard fought win against Saints.

Shaban’s solitary strike in the first half eventually turned out to be the deciding moment in the game where goalkeepers on either side had stellar performances.

Kabon Living got the first attempt on goal in the 10th minute after a long ball from Gadinho met him on the far end but his effort went just afew inches off target.

Two minutes later, Muhammad Shaban got onto the score sheet with his eighth goal of the campaign slotting the ball past goalkeeper Alex Mugabi.

Gadinho did the donkey work before laying a low cross which found Shaban unmarked just outside the area and he pounced on the lose ball with his left sending the travelling fans into a frenzy.

The teenage striker almost doubled the lead in the 23rd but his header off Rashid Agau’s cross sailed above the goal area.

Moses Basena, the Saints coach called for an early change introducing Aggrey Kirya for Ezekiel Katende at the half hour mark.

Anyama was forced to make an acrobatic save to deny Godfrey Wakaza and Faizal Anini cleared the rebound that was headed for goal.

Ivan Kiweewa had a glorious chance to level matters with five minutes to the break after skinning through Onduparaka defence but failed to put the ball past goalkeeper, Richard Anyama.

The hosts kept pilling pressure even after recess but failed to utilise the several chances they created.

Kabon Living was denied by the woodwork five minutes after recess with his powerful shot ricocheting off the cross bar.

Anyama denied Rogers Aloro parrying away the latter’s shot from a free kick in the 72nd minute.

Reckless defending from Dennis Ssekitoleko deep into added time gifted the ball to Shaban Muhammad but goalkeeper Mugabi had a simple tap on Shaban’s attempt and the ball went out for a corner.

The result means Onduparaka move from sixth to fourth on the table with 21 points, ten behind league leaders KCCA.

On the other hand Saints remain in 10th position on 15 points

Uganda Premier League
Vipers 1-2 SC Villa

Abdallah Mubiru’s future at Vipers sports club seems uncertain after defeat to SC Villa piled more misery on his team dropping to 5th position.

Ambrose Kirya’s late strike did not only bring victory to Shafik Bisaso’s coached side but also put a halt to a poor run against Vipers that had seen the Jogoos go 14 league games without a win against Vipers.

The last time Villa registered a win against the Kitende based side was on 1st March 2009. (Villa won 3-1).

Despite Ibrahim Kayiwa giving Vipers the lead, Villa staged a stunning comeback after recess with goals coming from defensive midfielder Tadeo Lwanga and Ambrose Kirya.

Vipers started the game without Tony Odur and Erisa Ssekisambu but still had a better start albeit failing to put away the chances.

Kayiwa who had come on for injured Halid Lwaliwa four minutes after the half hour mark surged up to head home Nicholas Wadada’s cross in the 44th minute and give Vipers a halftime lead.

SC Villa returned recharged after the break and in the 58th minute, Tadeo Lwanga who was the skipper of the day levelled matters.

Martin Kizza won a free kick just outside the area and his cross from the resultant free kick met Lwanga unmarked to fire past goalkeeper Ismael Watenga.

Possession kept oscillating from team to another but both sides failed to utilise the chances.

With the game almost heading for a stalemate, SC Villa won a penalty after Hassan Wasswa tripped Tadeo Lwanga in the forbidden area and referee Alex Muhabi pointed to the spot kick.

AbduMalik Vitalis Tabu stepped up to take the penalty which was denied by Watenga but Ambrose Kirya picked the rebound to fire home and send SC Villa fans into a frenzy.

The result means SC Villa remain second on 27 points, four behind leaders KCCA who earned a hard fought 3-2 win against Proline.

On the other hand, Vipers drop from third to fifth and remain on 20 points, now 11 points behind KCCA.

Vipers have now won just a single game in their last five a thing that leaves Abdallah Mibiru’s job hanging in balance.

Earlier in the game, Vipers fans turned rowdy, throwing stones on the pitch, an incident that caused the arrest of one of the fans.

Vipers starting XI: Ismael Watenga, Nicholas Wadada, Dan Birikwalira, Hassan Wasswa, Halid Lwaliwa, Shafik Bakaki, Deus Bukenya, Kizito Keziron, Pius Wangi, Bashir Mutanda, Brian Kakaire

SC Villa starting XI: Samson Kirya, Joseph Nsubuga, John Adriko, Henry Katongole, Ibrahim Kiyemba, Tadeo Lwanga, Paul Mbowa, Abel Eturude, Alex Benzema, Umar Kasumba, Ambrose Kirya

At the age of 46, Mr Asiimwe Kagari is a fully fledged traditional healer and foreseer with no regrets.

Looking back at the white color person of his past, Asiimwe says he is much happier doing what he calls a greater mission – using supernatural powers he claims to have inherited from the Bachwezi demigods to cure a spectrum of diseases and curses.

Asiimwe, who quit his job at the World Food Program to take over from his parents as a traditional healer and fortune teller, yesterday hosted the minister of Gender Labor and Social Development Hon. Janat Mukwaya at his base in Katerananga, Biharwe Division in Mbarara municipality.

He is currently the head of the Uganda Barangi Healers Association (UBHA).

Having quit his job in Kigali, Rwanda just last year, Asiimwe currently boosts of a strong clientele from mainly Uganda, Tanzania and the RDC.

He is taking in the footsteps of his father Eryesafu Karibita Kagari, a renowned foreseer who died back in the 1970s.

After his mother’s passing in 2005, Asiimwe last year decided to come back home and take over the healing business using Chwezi powers.

During his consecration, he recalls, he was told “never to steal, drink alcohol or touch any intoxicants, but just keep praying.”

“I was taught how to pray and I kept on praying. Nothing special was given to me but I just heal people who come here and they come back to thank me,” he told the minister.

Ever since he took over the Bachwezi powers he says he has treated over 400 people from 35 districts countrywide, DRC and Tanzania.

Asiimwe says that he only heals ‘satanic evil diseases’ but for anything else like malaria, he advises people to go to the hospital for treatment.

“We don’t treat such diseases; we just refer them to hospitals. Sometimes those that don’t have money, I give them my own money to go to the hospital.”

On the challenges he faces, Asiimwe says he gets interference from religious leaders and sometimes the police.

“Police officers accuse us of causing insecurity while religious leaders take us to be interfering with the church. I myself am a protestant; I am not against religion or God,” he adds.

He also warns, “Here we don’t have money to give away; we believe in saving and working and not wasting money, hoping that you will come here and get it back.”

At the event, the Gender Minister Janat Mukwaya hailed the traditional healers for the role they play in development and said government is not against them.

The Government of the Republic of South Sudan and Africa Oil & Power have agreed to work in partnership on a slew of initiatives to promote foreign direct investment in the East African country.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit is expected to present a keynote address at Africa Oil & Power, to be held June 5-7, 2017 in Cape Town.

The conference will also host a special Market Spotlight session on South Sudan which will feature Minister of Petroleum Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth alongside key industry leadership to discuss developments in the industry.

According to South Sudan officials, the war troubled government has adopted a strongly pro-business attitude with the hope that expansions in the petroleum sector and heightened exploration activity will stimulate its economy.

Once one of sub-Saharan Africa’s mightiest hydrocarbon economies, South Sudan has seen oil production decline since the country has grappled with civil conflicts with a rebel faction.

South Sudan currently produces 130,000 barrels per day but is capable of daily output of 500,000 barrels. The Ministry of Petroleum has been undergoing some important negotiations with oil companies to enter the market and has previously considered launching its first licensing round.

The Market Spotlight session on South Sudan will gather the industry’s key participants to discuss developments in the sector, including exploration activity, production outlooks, energy security, corporate finance, downstream and export infrastructure. Africa Oil & Power will produce a range of resources for the South Sudanese government to promote its activities.

“We are truly honored that the Government of South Sudan has agreed to participate in Africa Oil & Power,” said Guillaume Doane, CEO of Africa Oil & Power.

“South Sudan has a proud legacy in the petroleum sector and has shown a huge willingness to attract companies to the country and develop its abundance of hydrocarbons. The country recognizes that unlocking those natural resources is vital to fostering economic growth, restoring peace and stability and we hope to be useful in those efforts.”

“South Sudan is truly honored to participate in Africa’s premier energy industry event,” said Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, Minister of Petroleum for South Sudan.

“Our country strives to restore its rightful place in Africa’s hydrocarbons sector and we see this an opportunity for our head of state H.E. General Salva Kiir Mayardit to outline our vision for the industry and attract investors to South Sudan.”

The participation of the South Sudan government follows the commitment of several high-level government to Africa Oil & Power 2017, including: H.E. Patrice Trovoada, Prime Minister of São Tomé and Principe; and H.E. Francisco Pascual Obama Asue, Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea; H.E. Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons of Equatorial Guinea; and Hon. Tina Joemat-Pettersson, Minister of Energy for South Africa.

The opposition in Parliament sitting on the Appointments Committee have Monday boycotted the vetting of the new Electoral Commission (EC) members who were recently sent before the committee by President Museveni.

Recently, DP president,Norbert Mao who is also the Chairman of the Interparty Organization for Dialogue (IPOD) petitioned the Speaker of Parliament calling upon her to stay the vetting process.

According to the Leader of Opposition Winnie Kizza, IPOD was working on a process to the effect that the issues in Citizens Compact of free and fair elections, which suggested an independent Electoral Commission involve a commission that is no longer appointed by the president.

“In July IPOD met President Museveni at State House in July where issues of an Independent EC were discussed and the president said that the process was going to be first tracked. He ordered the Prime Minister to organize a meeting so that these issues are further discussed,” said the LOP.

“When the names came out, IPOD through Mao wrote a petition to the Speaker saying that the process should be given a chance to continue. Well we haven’t received any communication form the Speaker whether the president has accepted that the process continues or not.”

Kiiza said the opposition still believes in IPOD and that what the president committed himself to do in the meeting at State House is still on.

“Our process is still on and we are not attending the vetting because the process that the president communicated to us is still incomplete. The president should explain to us why he hurriedly appointed EC members without communicating to his colleagues with whom they were in a meeting.”

Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) with leaders in Kasese are set to meet the International Criminal Court (ICC) Registrar, Herman von Hebel over the recent clashes in Kasese that left hundreds of people dead.

The opposition have since the clashes accused the security organs of using excessive force to attack the Omusinga of Rwenzururu Charles Mumbere’s palace a week ago where dozens of people were killed.

“The FDC demanded and still demand an independent inquiry into the mass murders in Kasese, the police and the UPDF are a party to this conflict and can’t pretend to be the ones investigating,” noted the party Spokesperson, Ibrahim SemujuNganda at the party Headquarters on Monday.

“Government continues to behave suspiciously; up to now we haven’t understood why they decided to carry the bodies into the barracks. If you are not hiding anything, why would you bury civilians in barracks,” he said in reference to the mass burial of the unclaimed bodies yesterday.

Police and the army maintained they carried out the operation after the king refused to surrender his guards, part of whom had just killed police officers in an attack

The commander of the raid Brig Peter Elweru has since demanded an apology from the politicians who he accused of misleading the King.

Nganda observed that FDC together with the leadership of Kasese will be seeking to hold the individual UPDF and police officers that participated in this mass murder.

“Brig. Elweru and Asuman Mugyenyi should be put on notice that it’s no longer possible to hide in the institution of police and military to go and committee crimes these particular individuals will be pursued locally and internationally.

“Before I came here, I have been speaking to Kasese leaders including MPs and they are trying to fix an appointment with the Registrar of ICC Herman von Hebelwhom who we’ve learnt he is in the country to prepare logistics for the trial of Dominic Ongwen.”

“Kasese leaders are trying to access the ICC registrar for preliminary consultation on how they can formally present a petition to have the matter investigated by ICC and have the perpetrators investigated.”
