Members of Parliament are expected to approve Shs 43bn on Thursday in supplementary budget to the Parliamentary Commission.
The money is specifically to cater for the balance of Shs 100m to each MP to buy car befitting their status and honorable members.
ChimpReports has exclusively learned that among the items to be handled by Parliament session this morning is ensuring that the supplementary is passed as it is remaining only 29 days to the closure of Financial Year 2016/2017.
“MPs are supposed to get their money for cars within a year and the financial year is soon concluding. We have decided that money be got today,” a source from the Parliamentary Commission told ChimpReports.
When contacted on phone, the Parliament’s Communication Director, Chris Obore confirmed the development.
“Ministry of Finance has honored an agreement between Parliament and the President that the money for cars would be paid in two installments. Facilitation for MPs cars is an obligation of government which has now been fully fulfilled,” Mr. Obore said.
Last year in August government released 64bn as partial payment for MPs to buy cars and each was given Shs 150bn.
The money was not readily available for each legislator to get the full Shs 250m for a car.
