A 55 year old Court Clerk working at the Kisoro Chief Magistrates Court was on Monday arrested by detectives from the Inspectorate of Government for soliciting a Shs. 50,000 bribe from a court litigant.

Deogratias Tereraho was arrested by detectives from the Kigezi Regional Inspectorate of Government office for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Ug. Shs. 50,000.

Sam Agaba, the Kigezi regional Inspectorate of Government said that the suspect was arrested following a tip off from a complainant who was following up an assault case he reported in 2008.

The complainant, Augustine Baryora told the IGG’s office that every time he visited the office of the chief magistrate, Tereraho would ask for a bribe from him.

The  office used the complainant to trap the suspect after he had received the bribe on Monday.

Agaba said that the suspect will be sent to the Anti-corruption Court to answer to the charges.

However, Tereraho denied the allegations against him saying that he only received a token from the complainant for the good service he had always offered him.

“We are in the process of transporting him to Kampala so that he can be arraigned in the anti-corruption court,” Said Agaba.

Tereraho is the second court clerk to be arrested in the Kigezi sub region for bribery. On 16th March 2017, Julius Zaribugire a court clerk attacked to the Kabale chief magistrate’s court was arrested by police  for  soliciting a bribe  of  200,000= from a relative of one of the suspects in an assault case.
