Horror hit Makerere University on Good Friday evening after one of the female students reportedly jumped off the third floor of Mitchel Hall, a boys’ hall of residence.
Former students’ leader Godwin Toko has identified the victim as Brenda Nakyejju, a second year student of Film and Drama, attached to Mary Stuart Hall but was residing in Cyber Hostel.
Toko was the Guild Representative Councilor (GRC) for the School of Law in the 82nd guild. He is also a resident of Mitchel Hall and an elder in the hall.
“She was rushed to and is currently admitted at Mulago Hospital; we pray that God uses the doctors to save her,” he said.
“Those that escorted her to the hospital say she was speaking and confirmed she jumped because she had been locked in the room and threatened with rape,” he added.
Guild President elect Kato Paul, who is also a resident of the same hall confirmed that the lady was fine and that parents had arrived at Mulago.
“By the time I left Mulago (3am), she had been stabilized and her parents had already arrived. Thank God she landed on a soft ground, she showed signs of improving,” Kato told ChimpReports on phone.
He said the incident happened on the same floor where he resides and identified the suspect only as Jeremiah who is still at large.
“The Police is conducting investigations into the matter and they will update us on what they find out,” he said.
