Police FC 2-0 Vipers
Police football club condemned Vipers to yet another loss after losing 2-0 in the game played on Friday at Mandela National stadium.
Vipers came into the game on the back of a shocking exit to Paidha Black Angels in the Uganda cup and had gone two games in the league without a win.
Combative midfielder Hakim Ssenkumba scored a penalty in either half to give Police FC their first victory after six games and also bring a sigh of relief in the relegation fight.
Vipers seemed disjointed right from kickoff lacking the link between the midfield and Tonny Odur who started as the lone striker.
A clumsy challenge by goalkeeper Ismail Watenga on Police’s Ruben Kimera cost his team with centre referee Ali Sabila awarding a penalty to the home side.
Watenga after making a save went ahead to hit Kimera in the face with his elbow and Ssenkumba did no mistake to convert the resultant penalty in the 18th minute.
Police could have doubled their lead eight minutes later but Hood Kaweesa after dribbling through Vipers defence opted to lay up rather than to attempt at goal.
Vipers had a penalty appeal in the 34th minute after defender Brian Ochwo seemingly held the ball inside the box but the referee thought otherwise.
Ssenkumba stepped up once again in the second half to convert another penalty after defender Bakaki handled the ball in the forbidden area.
The result means Police move to 8th place with 28 points while Vipers drop to sixth on 36 points.
