Police are holding a political activist for reportedly circulating material to smooth the progress of demonstrations against the blockade at Dr Kizza Besigye’s home.
Vincent Musoke, according to police publicist Fred Enanga, is accused of “inciting violence after he was found distributing and in possession of items meant to facilitate unlawful demonstrations prior to the Supreme Court ruling over the most recent presidential elections.”
These included chains, T-shirts with signs that read “free my vote, break the chain” and padlocks.
Enanga said the suspect has since been detained at the Special Investigations Division, Kireka, and exhibits of evidential value that included two boxes of T-shirts, chains and padlocks recovered from him.
In a related development, 11 other youth activists were Thursday arrested while holding pockets of unlawful demonstrations against the alleged dismissal of the Presidential elections petition and continued preventive action against FDC former flag bearer, Dr Kiiza Besigye.
Enanga revealed that the suspects clad in white T-shirts with signs that read “Free my vote, break the chain” had planned their protests hours before the Supreme Court ruling and with the knowledge that they would get arrested.
The court dismissed Amama Mbabazi’s petition seeking to nullify the election of president Museveni.
“We strongly condemn such acts of lawlessness because of the potential of endangering public safety and order,” said Enanga.
“We also want to reiterate our respect of the public’s rights of freedom of expression, but at the same time urge the public to do so within the requisite of the law.”
