
Acting Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General, Henry Saka, has held meetings with representatives of water bottling companies as he pushes for greater tax compliance.
He visited the bottlers of Highland mineral water on Thursday in Kawempe.
Speaking at N.C Beverages offices, where he made a courtesy call, Mr. Saka applauded this company for their compliance.
The company remits over Shs 300 million per month to the revenue basket.
“URA is here to thank you for paying your taxes and ensuring that others [companies] comply,” he said of the visit.
In terms of PAYE, the company contributes Shs 28 million, VAT Shs 0million, Local Excise Duty- Shs 144m and as per last return of income tax, the company remitted Shs 72 million.
URA officials said the campaign to consistently visit taxpayers started three years ago to showcase companies’ contributing to the revenue it collects and how it benefits the country.
Mr. Saka also pledged to continue supporting the industry through new URA innovations like the Central Document Processing Centre (CDPC) in customs which will be a sole place where declarations will be processed to minimize discrepancies in valuation.
