The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah has called upon members of the 10th Parliament to stay calm as the Parliamentary Commission finalizes with their cars.

This followed a complaint by Kaliro Woman lawmaker, Margaret Mbeiza who took to the floor of the house charging the Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda to explain when MPs will get their money for the cars.

Frustrated Mbeiza told the house that members including herself were risking their lives on bodabodas and other public transport means and getting weary of it.

“Mr. Speaker, I want to inquire from the Prime Minister, this issue of the vehicle for us, this is not a matter for laughing, it is a necessity. It is a right and it is of national importance,” Mbeiza said during the Prime Minister’s time on Wednesday.

“For how long Mr. Speaker shall we be using Bodabodas and risking our lives, in Kaliro I used my Land Cruiser, then I used another vehicle whose engine broke down.”

“Through you I am inquiring from the Prime Minister; when are we getting the vehicles?”

The Deputy Speaker who was presiding over the house quickly urged the member to stay calm since the issue is being handled by the Commission of Parliament.

“Members, that is a matter not for the Prime Minister but a matter for the Parliamentary Commission. If I had known what was coming up, I would have told you no, let us address that internally within Parliament. The Parliamentary Commission is handling that,” Oulanyah said.
