Former Presidential candidate Col Dr Kizza Besigye who recently returned from abroad where he was for just over a month, will not be permitted to leave his Kasangati residence for the time being, police has said.
The Police force fears Besigye and a section of his supporters are hatching a plan to cause an uprising in the city.
Besigye, who is out on Bail for alleged treason was today blocked by police officers, who are camped at his house, from stepping out of his gate.
The police mouthpiece Andrew Felix Kaweesi told Chimpreports on Wednesday that the blockade was only precautionary in nature.
“We stopped Dr. Besigye from leaving home today under preventive measures. We had received intelligence reports that he and his group had organized to cause havoc in the city,” Kaweesi told us.
He however, dismissed the assertion that the blockade is permanent, stressing that only when he is deemed with wrongful plans, will he be stopped from leaving his house.
“Whenever we get information of planned unrest we act. We’re also are using a containment approach which is keeping close watch on all his movements and activities,” he said.”
Dr Besigye was confined at his house for weeks at his residence after the February Elections, which he claims to have won by 52%.
He later on declared and swore himself in as the President elect, which landed him treason charges that he is battling in court; where he must report regularly are per the terms of his bail.
