Following the recently completed rehabilitation and expansion work at Ggaba water works, the Uganda National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has announced another 2-day shutdown in water supply to the Kampala city centre and neighbouring areas.

According to a statement released Wednesday, the shutdown will affect the areas of Kampala city center, Gayaza, Kanyanya, Kyanja, Komamboga, parts of Bwaise and the surrounding areas.

“There will be a 48hr planned shutdown at Nakasero Gunhill water reservoir to enable our engineers reconfigure associated pipelines and subsequently improve water supply in the City,” the statement reads in part.

The shutdown is part of the bigger process to add 50million litres of water per day to Kampala Service area.

Previously, the corporation could supply 190 million litres of water per day, while the demand for water in Kampala is 240 million litres per day.

The developments have seen the amount of water supplied to the Kampala Service area increase to 210 million litres per day and the corporation seeks to increase it to 240 million litres, to be able to satisfy the water needs in Kampala.

The project involved establishment of new infrastructure and rehabilitation of existing ones within Ggaba1 and Ggaba2 Water Treatment Plants, laying of a new transmission line, DN700 to Namasuba hill, construction of 8 Million reservoir capacity at Namasuba hill and laying evacuation pipe line and secondary distribution lines to the above target areas.
