Amir Sheikh Yunus Kamoga, the head of the Tabliq Movement and 13 people he is jailed with for murder and terrorism, have been cited in the recent murder of Maj. Muhammad Kiggundu who was murdered a fortnight ago on his way from Bulenga to Kampala.

Sheikh Kamoga is charged with the murder of Sheikhs Mustafa Bahiga and Hassan Kirya, and the attempted Murder of Sheikh Haruna Jemba before International Crimes Division Court.

A prosecution witness in today’s hearing, who claimed to have mediated talks between the Tabliq Sect and Government informed court that after misunderstandings emerged among the Tabliqs, Kamoga’s side came up with a list of Sheikhs from Bahiga’s sect whom they declared enemies of Islam who must be eliminated.

The misunderstandings allegedly led to the break up of the Tabliq sect into one leaning to Shk Kamoga and another allegiant to Shk Mustafa Bahiga.

“On 20th November 2014, when we were in one of the biggest Islamic seminars in Nyendo, Masaka district, Sheikh Siraje Kawooya read out names of people whom he declared as enemies of Islam and thereafter called upon all believers not to allow enter in any mosque,” said the unnamed witness, adding that all this was in the presence of Sheikh Kamoga who never opposed it.

On the list of names he said, were Sheikh Mustapha Bahiga, Sheikh Hassan Kirya, Maj. Muhammad Kiggundu who has just been shot, Sheikh Haruna Jemba, Najib Ssonko, Muhammoud Kibaate and Sheikh Sudiq Ndawula.

“I asked Amir Kamoga about the source of their misunderstandings and he informed me that Bahiga’s group had people like Sheikh Sudiq Ndawula, Maj Kiggundu, and Sheikh Kirya; and that Bahiga himself wanted him out of Amir’s office,” the witness submitted.

He added that Kamoga has earlier vowed not to let this to happen to Islam and that he was prepared to do anything to bring back order.

“He informed me that even if it meant shedding blood of those against him he was willing to, at any time of the day. After that our communication with sheikh Kamoga ended there.”

The witness went on to inform court that a few weeks after the death of Sheikh Bahiga, he started receiving threatening phone calls and messages that he would be beheaded any time. This prompted him to report the matter to authorities who provided him with guards.

He expressed fear that so far three of people on the list have been put out so far.

Meanwhile the Court today issued an order to two Telecoms Airtel Uganda and MTN Uganda to provide phone and message printouts on the numbers that allegedly threatened the witness.

An order has also been issued to DPC Masaka Police station to present to court a Police file for case number SD/2085/2015 which was reported to this station by the witness after receiving threatening messages.

The three justices Ezikiel Muhanguzi, Percy Tuhaise and Jane Kiggundu have adjourned the further hearing of the matter to 11th January 2017.

The Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru has been locked down and security operatives deployed around the facility, Chimp Corps report.

The development comes in the wake of the recent impasse between the two Fufa factions, led by former Uganda Cranes player Dan Walisimbi and current President Eng. Moses Magogo.

About four UPDF commandos are currently deployed at the main gate which is sealed off to deny entry of any cars although the small gate remains open for pedestrians to access the facility.

Speaking to ChimpSport on Friday morning, one of the soldiers revealed that they were guarding the centre after a tip off that some people harbored intentions to vandalize property.

“We are here to guard the stadium because there was information that some people wanted to burn the carpet (turf),” said one of the UPDF soldiers. He however said he wasn’t in position to tell why there was a seal at the gate.

Currently, a management and administration course is going on at the facility although the gate is closed.

A source inside the management of the facility, who preferred anonymity so as to speak freely revealed that the seal was put on the gate by Njeru Municipal Council officials who claim that Fufa owes them money.

“The council workers came and closed the gates yesterday, just some days after putting the notice. They claim that we owe them Shs 25million but I don’t know for what,’ the source confided in ChimpSport.

By publication time, business was going on usually in the facility with only pedestrians allowed to access it.

Asked about the developments, Fufa Spokesperson Ahmed Hussein denied knowledge of the lockdown and the UPDF deployment.

“I am not going to comment on that. I am the owner of the place and am telling you nothing like that is happening. You come with your car and see whether you will be denied entry,” Hussein told ChimpSport on phone.

All main entry gates have been sealed off.

He declined to comment on the issue of the Shs 25million allegedly owed to Njeru Municipal Council saying he knew nothing about it.

“I won’t say anything right now. If you get the real documentation from the council, then we can talk about that that,” added a furious Hussein.

Members sitting on the Parliamentary Committee of Defense chaired by Hon Judith Nabakooba were yesterday ‘stunned’ by contradictions put forward by heads of government security organs they were grilling over the Kasese clashes that left dozens dead.

The committee is currently investigating the issues that transpired in Kasese between November 24 and 27 to come up with a report that will be presented before the house for discussion.

Kawempe South Member of Parliament, Mubarak Munyagwa who is a member on the committee told the media that the closed door meeting heard a lot of contradictions from the officials.

“I told fellow (opposition) members that in order to get the truth, we should not boycott the meeting. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Gen. Jeje Odongo) brought a different version that the people who died in the clashes were 104; so they are contradicting each other, Hon. Kiyonga talked of over 250, the Director of Military Intelligence talked of 64, the Minister of Defense in the morning talked of 78,” Munyagwa revealed.

“This means they are all telling lies when it comes to the number of people who died during the clashes; they all say there were no children in the palace,” Munyagwa said.

According to Munyagwa, members asked to be allowed to visit the people who were arrested at the palace to determine whether or not there were women and children, but the security officers were hesitant.

“The important thing we have got is that they have revealed that the suspects were driven from Kasese to Nalufenya naked; this was said by the Minister of Internal Affairs and even Kaweesi didn’t refute it.”

Speaking to the media after the closed meeting, the Minister of Defense, Jeje Odongo revealed that the suspects are still in detention centers and their charges are being prepared.

On reports of whether there were children killed in the palace, the Minister noted that there were no children; “we didn’t see any and that’s why we have never mentioned them in any of the reports we have made.”

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday at around 4pm. It is alleged that Murangira invited the victim to his residence supposedly to send her to pick him something at the shop.

Karugaba is said to have sent the pupil to the school store to pick nails for repairing a rake. The minor was heard by fellow pupils and teachers crying inside the store before Karugaba got out and fled never to be seen again since.

Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi says the suspect will appear before court to answer to charges of aggravated defilement after the investigations into the matter are complete.

AUPL: Express Out to End Bad Run in Jinja

Coach Matia Lule enjoyed a winning start to his tenure at Express FC as his team made away with a 2-1 advantage away to Soana FC on Tuesday.

The Red Eagles travel to Jinja to face relegation dogged Jinja Municipal Council as they close first round business. JMC Hippos have not yet won a league match and sit bottom of the table.

The hosts are hampered with several injuries in their camp but coach Lutaalo believes those available will do the job and break the unwanted season jinx.

Hippos defeated Express at Kakindu earlier in March with two goals from centre back Walangarira Musa and Richard Wandyaka.

“All our efforts are focused towards winning our first game though it’s not going to be easy but we are still hopeful,” coach Lutalo said.

JMC have drawn two of their last five matches conceding seven goals while Express lost only one of their last five.

The team had gone seven games without a victory prior to Mathias Lules appointment.

Express lost both games at Kakindu last season with an identical 2-0 to JMC hippos and Bul FC.

“Preparations have gone well and team is ready to put in a good shift to the game,” Express coach Matia Lule said.

“I can’t promise a win but if we play good game we can get all the three points. I request the fans to turn up in huge numbers to give us more energy.”

JMC Hippos will miss the services of strikers Musa Bankene, Abdulrahim Ajab, while  Kato will wait for a late fitness test.

Captain Mike Mutyaba, Simon Sserunkuma and Ismael Kazibwe are all out of contention for a place in Lule’s travelling squad.

UNHCR Donates $1M Worth Vehicles to Prime Minister’s Office, Partners

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in Uganda has donated vehicles worth more than US$1 million to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and partners.

The vehicles were handed over at a ceremony attended by the Commissioner for Refugees David Apollo Kazungu, the UNHCR Representative to Uganda Bornwell Kantande and representatives from partner agencies.

Kantande emphasized the impact the vehicles will have in benefiting not only refugees, but also the Ugandan communities hosting them.

“Ugandan host communities deserve immense praise for continuing to welcome refugees with open arms,” said Kantande.

“Their generosity and hospitality is directly helping to save the lives of people fleeing war and violence. We stand ready to continue the guiding principle of utilizing 30% of our resources to improve schools, health clinics and other local infrastructure to benefit Ugandan host communities.”

Referring to the South Sudanese refugee crisis in Uganda, which continues to face chronic and severe underfunding, Commissioner Kazungu called on implementing partners to maximise the use of the vehicles donated by UNHCR.

“At this time of so little funding, we must make good use of all resources we are given,” said Kazungu.

“I urge all agencies and partners to use these additional resources to address the most critical needs of the refugees.”

Ten vehicles were donated to implementing partners and six vehicles to OPM to support the needs of a rapidly growing refugee population in the West Nile region in northern Uganda, the epicentre of the South Sudan emergency response.

In just a few months, Bidibidi settlement in Yumbe district, which opened in August this year, has become one of the largest refugee-hosting areas in the world.

The sheer size of the settlement, where refugees are given plots of land rather than being confined in camps, means that vehicles such as those donated by UNHCR are vital in ensuring that humanitarian agencies are able to provide refugees with protection and assistance.

Since fighting broke out in Juba in July this year, an average of around 2,500 refugees a day have crossed the border from South Sudan into Uganda.

Humanitarian agencies are endeavoring to respond to the needs of new arrivals but are facing significant challenges having received just 36% of the US$251 million needed to meet the needs of South Sudanese refugees in Uganda in 2016.

Ongwen Trial Isn’t Enough – Acholi Leaders

A group of traditional and opinion leaders in Acholi who attended the opening of the trial of indicted former LRA Dominic Ongwen in The Hague have appealed to the people in the area who were victimized by the two decades of bloodshed to wait patiently and let the trial process take its course.

The team that was flown to The Hague by the Danish Embassy and ICC for the trail was led by His Highness Rwot David Onen Acana the Paramount Chief of Acholi and Archbishop John Baptist Odama the Archbishop of Gulu Archdiocese.

In a statement they released, the team revealed that they were able to meet and exchange ideas with representatives of the International Criminal Court (ICC), that is the Presidency and Chambers, Office of the Prosecutor, Registry, and the parties and participants involved in the trial of Dominic Ongwen.

Dominic Ongwen is being tried following an indictment for crimes against humanity and war crimes he is alleged to have committed as a senior commander of the LRA.

“The case of Dominic Ongwen remains very important to us because it is a milestone in defining one way in the attempt to secure justice and accountability for the people of Northern Uganda, and ultimately to help people reconcile with their past and move towards peace,” read the statement.

“As leaders and representatives of various groups and interests in the Acholi region, we note that various grave crimes were committed in Northern Uganda during the time the LRA was active in Uganda; the nature of the crimes committed violated traditional, Ugandan and international law and therefore warranted action against perpetrators in terms of securing justice for the victims and holding the perpetrators accountable.”

These believed that with the ICC process, matters related to such crimes will be adjudicated.

They stressed however that beyond Dominic Ongwen’s specific case, the Acholi people still have to contend with the broader question of justice and accountability arising from the conflict.

“The fact that the LRA is still out there obliges us to remain focused on the broader issues of peace reconciliation, justice and accountability.”

“Indeed other mechanisms do exist in Uganda that have been extensively used in handling matters relating to obtaining accountability from perpetrators and securing justice for victims in the LRA conflict, including the law in Uganda and the traditional law norms, values and practices of the Acholi people. Though mechanisms and certain definitions may differ, the Acholi justice system gives a broader context and definition to questions of accountability and justice which is hinged primarily on restorative justice other than a punitive one.”

“Since justice is a long process especially when it is searching for truth, we call upon our people to allow the judicial process and those who wish to testify to come and do so without any fear of reprisals. We also urge the international community and the Government of Uganda to remain focused on the wider question of transitional justice in Northern Uganda which remains largely unattended to and is grossly affecting many lives.”

ChimpReports has got the names and obtained the picture of a Norwegian Refugee Council senior worker arrested and detained by the South Sudan military intelligence, the National Security Service.

On Thursday, the Council’s spokesperson, Tuva Bognes told the Associated Press that the National Security Service operatives stormed their offices in Juba and disappeared with the worker.

She however did not mention the name of the staff.

This website has learned that the arrested person is not just a staff but the Country Director of Norwegian Refugee Council, Victor Moses.

He was taken to the military Intelligence’s headquarters in the Juba suburb of Jebel where mainly political and security related suspects are usually detained.

“Victor Moses was picked from us during the broad day light yesterday. We didn’t hear anything from the guys (security operatives) who took him,” a source at the Council’s headquarters’ told this reporter.

Though the Norwegian Refugee Council is an independent organization, the Scandinavian nation remains the biggest donor after the United States and the United Kingdom, extending close to $100m annually to the war torn South Sudan.

South Sudan has 2.2m people displaced internally and close to half of the 13 million population is depending on foreign aid since a bloody civil war broke out in December 2013.

South Sudan government is however seen to be having better relationship with Norway unlike other two members of the Torika States- US and the UK who are seen as diplomatic bullies.

Lawyers Fueling Corruption in Judiciary- Principle Judge Bamwine

The Principle Judge Yokoram Bamwine has blasted lawyers as being largely responsible for the high corruption levels within the judiciary.

A recent survey by the office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) revealed that the judiciary at 79% was second to police in the most corrupt institutions in the country.

Addressing lawyers during a  function on Friday to commemorate 60 years of Uganda Law Society at the High Court in Kampala, Bamwine said lawyers cannot be taken out in the cycle of corruption by the judiciary stressing these contribute a big percentage .

“Most of you think corruption is by only those employed by government but it is not true. Lawyers too are corrupt,” Bamwine said.

“Many of you (lawyers) have a tendency of collecting money from clients to take it to judges and in most cases it stops at your desk. The judiciary is corrupt because you the lawyers are part of it.”

The Principle Judge said that if the practice of corruption is to be fought, the lawyers too have to be involved because they are part of the circuit.

He said that the judiciary has made efforts to fight corruption within the temples of justice but noted that concerted efforts from other members of the public are also necessary in the fight.

Bamwine urged lawyers to refrain from demeaning the judiciary, an institution they studied law in a bid to serve.

The Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Charles Ogwal said their office would at all time be willing to help in the fight against corruption at all levels.

“If any judicial officer is brought before the Anti Corruption Court, we are ready to let the law take its action on them,” Ogwal told lawyers.

Francis Gimara, the Uganda Law Society President at the event acknowledged that some legal practitioners are involved in practices contrary to the profession but warned these are to be dealt with.

“This year’s theme is to rekindle legal practice. We can’t accept those who want to erase this noble profession,” Gimara said.

“Any client who realizes a lawyer is asking them for money to bribe judges should report them on top of changing them for another lawyer.”

The Uganda Law Society president urged the members of the public to always desist from tendencies that encourage corruption.

For the second year consecutive/running, telecommunications’ giant Airtel Uganda has announced a campaign to share the joy of Christmas with communities and to bring hope to individuals, families and organizations that are doing the great work of restoring hope in the lives of others in the community.

Dubbed ‘12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS’, the campaign was conceptualized in December 2015 and named after popular Christmas song “The Twelve Days of Christmas” – an English Christmas carol that enumerates a series of grand gifts given on each of the twelve days of Christmas.

Once again, staff members nominated and submitted their nominations to the Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Mrs. Charity Bukenya, who worked with a cross functional team to select the 12 projects that were communicated to the staff members.

Organizations such as Bright Kids Uganda in Entebbe, Bugiri & Kumi Hospitals, MADEFO Home of the Elderly and individuals such as  Kyomuhendo Hellen a patient awaiting a liver transplant were the first beneficiaries of this campaign.

Commenting about this campaign, Mr. Anwar Soussa, the Airtel Uganda Managing Director, thanked all his staff and directors for their participation in this campaign.

“During this time of offering “thanks”, it is prudent for us to reach out to the organizations and individuals who have not only supported us throughout the year, but have also supported different people in different communities giving them hope for a great future and a helping hand during the season of giving.

“This campaign offers Airtel Uganda staff members an opportunity to contribute to and show their gratitude and appreciation to the communities in which they live and work,” Soussa added.

Last year, Airtel Uganda staff members chose 12 community projects that are transforming the lives of people; young and old with meager resources and went on to share the Red Airtel Christmas with them.

Organizations such as Cherish Uganda in Entebbe, Natasha Nutrition Center in Mbarara Hospital, Kawempe Home Care in Kanyanya as well as individuals such as Aunt Robinah who takes care of children of prisoners on Salama road and Immaculate – a kidney transplant patient benefitted from this campaign.

DPP Insists on Lwamafa and Group Refunding 50B

In retaliation to an appeal notice filed by the three former Ministry of Public Service officials challenging the order by Anti Corruption Judge Justice Lawrence Gidudu to refund 50bn shillings, the Director of Public Prosecutions Mike Chibita has insisted that the jailed officials must refund this money.

The three officials Jimmy Lwamafa, Stephen Kunsa Kiwanuka and Christopher Obey were ordered by the court to refund the Shs. 50, part of the 88 billion they allegedly swindled in payment of social security contributions to ghost pensioners.

Lwamafa, the former permanent Secretary, Obey the former Principle Accountant and Kunsa the former commissioner pensions in the Public Service Ministry were on 11th/November 2016 convicted of syndicate corruption by the Anti-corruption court.

On top of this, Justice Lawrence Gidudu sentenced them to 5, 7 and ten years imprisonment terms.

Basing on the letter dated 5th/December 2016 addressed to the Registrar Court of Appeal, the DPP says since there is no order  staying the  execution of the Anti-corruption court  decree, the convicts’  case file should be transferred to the High court-execution division for purposes of recovering the said money.

Lwamafa, Obey and Kunsa were dissatisfied with Justice Gidudu’s decision and have since filed a notice in the court of Appeal challenging their conviction, sentences and the order to make good of the loss.

LC1 Polls: Locals Reject Queue Voting

Local leaders in western Uganda are challenging the use of queues in the scheduled Local Council elections.

The leaders led by the LC 3 chairperson of Bukiro Sub County in Mbarara David Kitengye have strongly opposed this method and asked government to provide an alternative for the oncoming polls.

Kitengye says they were upset hearing that LC 1 elections will be conducted using queues unlike other elections which are secret ballot.

The Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, who was recently tasked by parliament explain the amendments in the law that will guide the LC polls which are slated for January 2017, revealed that government will be devoting only 9 billion shillings for the exercise.

The electoral commission has asked for 37billion, which government said was not affordable.

As such, the LC 1 polls which were last conducted during the 2001 general elections will still be conducted through voters lining up.

But local leaders and residents in Mbarara are strongly opposed to this system which they say stirs divisionism and may breed domestic violence.

One of the locals in Kashari Komwema Deziderio says since the voting is not secret, the eventual elected leaders may choose to punish those that didn’t vote for them.

The RDC Mbarara Capt. Martha Asiimwe however, told the residents during a meeting that the queuing up system will be a more transparent method of voting.

“It will also help us fight bribery,” she remarked. “You cannot have eaten a candidate’s money and he sees you lining up behind his opponent.”

She added that while this might be seen as a backward method of voting, people must also bear in mind that Uganda is still a poor country.

Bossa’s UPC Goes Defiant, Vows Not to Respect Kavuma’s Orders

Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) faction led by Joseph Bossa have vowed to defy all Court orders that were recently issued by Justice Steven Kavuma ordering them not to interfere with party activities.

Justice Kavuma ruled on Friday in an appeal filed by Lira Municipality legislator James Akena challenging the High Court decision under Justice Yasin Nyanzi which faulted his election as party president.

In his ruling, Kavuma granted an interim order staying the execution and or implementation of all the High Court orders which were granted under the Miscellaneous Cause No. 00086/2015 which had nullified Akena’s presidency.

However, at a press conference organised at Speke Hotel in Kampala on Sunday, Bossa’ team led by Prof. Edward Kakonge the National Chairman, Okello Lucima the Spokesperson and Isha Otto noted that the party resolved during a national council held on Saturday to defy the said orders.

“The party resolved to respect due process and legitimate decisions of competent courts but to defy ‘politicized’ court judgements and abuse of Court processes,” Kakonge noted.

“I have found out that there is notice in the High Court that the ruling was supposed to be given on 13th December, this means the judge must have summed to pressure to change the date and hurriedly bring it forward,” Kakonge observed.

“This is very unfortunate to the judge and up to now we have not yet been served with any orders that’s why we proceeded to the National Council meeting legally.”

Lucima noted that, “Today it’s one year since Justice Nyanzi’s ruling and the Court process has been used; they have used the appeal process to subvert justice and we know there are elements within the judicial system who are being used.”

“We shall not accept temporary orders due to the abuse and miss use of Court processes; the beneficiaries have been the Akena group whom we know as NRM and not UPC.”

“The Court didn’t uphold Akena as the UPC president but these are the same temporary injunctions that have always been granted to the group time and again; any judgement that we feel is politicized, we shall defy.”

On why court delivered the ruling Friday, Kavuma noted that, “Fixing the case on Monday was an error, Court realized that the extraordinary meeting (organized by Bossa) is taking place tomorrow; Court decided that it is imperative that the ruling is delivered so that the outcome may not be rendered nugatory.”

Kenyans Cross to Uganda for Medical Care

An unknown number of Kenyans have reportedly been crossing to Uganda to get medical services.

The Kenyans according to reports were compelled to cross the border following a sit down strike by medics in the neighboring country.

The doctors there have been on strike since Monday last week, protesting against their government, failure to implement a three-year old collective bargaining agreement.

Health services in Kenya were devolved to the new counties, causing protests by health workers who rejected the move, saying health services should remain with national government.

The Kenyan government has since deployed military doctors to fill the gap of the striking medics in some of the main hospitals in the country.

At the Uganda-Kenya border point of Suam, a number of Kenyans have been crossing into the district of Bokwo to seek health services.

These are reportedly coming from the areas of Trans-Nzoia, West Pokot and Turkana counties in western Kenya.

Kenyan media quoted one of the locals saying that healthcare is a key and urgently needed.

“It is a time where the neighbor’s help is much needed, public health facilities across this region are closed and without doctors forcing us to cross over to Uganda where many people have been helped so far,” one of the residents was quoted.

Meanwhile, Pokot pastoralists in Alale and Kiwawa areas also confirmed that they had sought medical care across the border in Nakapirpirit and Amdat Districts in Uganda after they lacked the same within the country.

Turkana County residents in Oropoi and Lorrengippi areas were also reported to be crossing to Uganda’s Moroto District to seek treatment, testifying that they have received help from across the border.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) youths are planning to erect a monument in recognition of President Yoweri Museveni and his contributions to the pacification and development of Uganda.

Under the NRM Trust and Reward Association, the youths told reporters on the weekend that they decided on the special recognition of President Museveni, saying it was the least they could do.

“We sat and looked back where president Museveni got this country from and we found that he really deserves a lasting prize,” the association chairman Gerald Ahimbisibwe  said.

The monument, Ahimbisibwe said, will be constructed at the Entebbe Zoo which is near Entebbe Airport and hopes it will attract the attention of foreign visitors as well.

The structure he said will contain health clubs, offices and hotels.

While addressing journalists, the youths noted that Uganda has become a starting place of peace for neighboring countries and that war torn countries like Somalia, South Sudan, Burundi and DRC have benefited a great deal under Museveni’s regime.

Ahimbisibwe said the monument — the tallest in Africa – will not only be for Ugandans appreciating President Museveni, but the entire region as a whole.

The project is estimated at $21million dollars which is about 75billion Uganda Shillings.

Out of this,  the NRM youth leader said they have so far obtained Shs. 26.5million to commence construction early January 2017.

The youth appealed to Ugandans in and out of the country, multinational companies, NGOs, Donor agencies to come out and support the project.

Since 2011, Kiiza Besigye has stood firm against the misrule of NRM. He has faced untold torture and intimidation but he has remained undeterred.

He has convinced millions of Ugandans that the NRM to which he once belonged has overstayed its welcome.

He has ruthlessly attacked President Museveni, often reminding Ugandans of the famous saying attributed to the president during his famous speech in 1986 “Africa’s problem is leaders who over stay in power.”

However, after contesting unsuccessfully four times, Besigye finds himself in the same predicament with his nemesis.

Will he let FDC thrive without him? Or will he cling onto the party’s ticket in 2021?

Unfortunately, there are all indications that he won’t let go. For example in 2015, he won the admiration of many Ugandans when he stepped aside from FDC Presidency thereby allowing Gen Muntu to take over the reins of the party.

However, rather than support the good general to build the party, he set up a parallel office on Katonga road.

Today, anyone who doesn’t toe “Besigye’s correct line” is viewed as a mole or someone who has been compromised.

There has emerged a group of radical cadres who won’t entertain alternative views or alternative leadership in the party.

Rather than use this precious time to build the party, FDC is stuck in a defiance mode that is simply a nonstarter.

Whereas the party enjoys good will among millions of Ugandans, it needs to demonstrate that it is a party on the move Not one stuck in failed strategies and personality cults.

Otherwise it will be impossible to compete with the oiled community structures of the NRM. If this continues, the results of 2021 will not be different from the previous ones.

The earlier the party listens to people like Hon Katuntu, the better for them and the better for Uganda.

The party can choose to bury its head in the sand or confront the brutal facts.
