Forum of Democratic Change supporters and leaders in Kabale district in western Uganda this morning joined the Christian faithful in walking the way of the cross, in commemoration of the Passion of Christ.
Led by the Kabale District FDC Secretary General and Kabale Municipality mayor elect Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha, the supporters carried the cross through Kabale town.
Byamugisha told reporters after the event that they decided to join in not only as believers but also to sympathize with their presidential candidate Col Dr Kizza Besigye, who has been under house arrest since the February 18th elections.
He said Besigye was currently going through similar suffering as Jesus Christ before he died for the sins of the world.
“This is why we are carrying the cross, to identify with him and pray for him that God may get him though this,” he said.
The opposition leaders trekked about five kilometers and wore no shoes on their feet.
They moved with the rest of the Christians from Christ the King Church in Kabale town through Kabale town to Makanga hill back to the church where they had prayers
