The State House Health Monitoring team has picked interest in a case in which a 20 year old woman died at Mbarara Hospital after she was reportedly neglected by midwives.

This followed continuous pressure on the regional hospital by the locals, some of whom organized and marched to the facility in protest.

Early this month, one Shamim Natumanya, a resident of Kakoba division in the municipality bled to death, while giving birth to her first child at the hospital, with no one to attend to her.

The young mother, according to witnesses successfully delivered the baby but bled to death as doctors refused to attend to her saying they didn’t have the materials to stop the bleeding.

The patients at the hospital, their caretakers and residents around the hospital on hearing the news immediately broke into protest.

Natumanya was laid to rest on Monday March 14th in Ishaka Bushenyi district, leaving behind the newborn baby.

Yesterday morning, two doctors from State House stormed the hospital to make a follow up on the case.

The medics who were not identified reportedly interrogated two nurses and a doctor, before heading to Mbarara Police where the case was filed.
