At least three people have been killed and another two severely injured in Bundibugyo in a bloody fresh tribal attack.
A boy aged 12 years was on Tuesday night hacked to death when a group of Bakonzo attacked the family of Bamba near Katiri trading, Kanyansiri parish, Ntontoro Sub County in Bundibugyo district.
Another two, a woman and a man whose names could not be disclosed by security from the same area were also hacked to death on Wednesday afternoon at around 12:00pm by a gang of Bakonzo armed with machetes.
A mother to the 12 year-old slaughtered boy was severely injured and rushed to Bundibugyo hospital in critical condition.
Another injured man who could not be identified was reportedly pelting stones at security officers. He is also admitted at Bundibugyo hospital as police investigate the cause of the attack.
A number of houses were also set a blaze by unknown people and property looted.
Bundibugyo District Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Geoffrey Mucunguzi has confirmed and termed as horrendous these attacks, saying that tension is once again on the rise in the Rwenzori region.
Mr.Mucunguzi told our reporter on phone that the army, police and other security agencies have deployed heavily following the fresh attacks to contain the situation.
He described the situation as tense and terrorizing, noting that the attackers seem to have lost focus and embarked to murdering innocent locals.
The RDC said that security have nabbed scores of suspects in connection with the attacks and are being detained at Bundibugyo police station.
He revealed that hundreds of people from the affected Ntontoro sub county are fleeing the area to the Bubukwanga refugee camp while the Bakonzo are trekking towards the mountains.
Bundibugyo District Police Commander Martin Tukahebwa could not be reached as his phones were off.
This comes barely a fortnight after attacks were reported in the districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo.
In Kasese District alone, the March 11th clashes left at least seven people dead, scores injured including a GISO while many others have been jailed. In Bundibugyo 12 people were killed and scores injured.
The Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, recently retracted his earlier statement linking the Rwenzururu Kingdom to a militia that attacked security officers in Kasese District.
Tooro Kingdom King Oyo Nyimba Kabanza Iguuru IV while addressing the Kingdom Parliament last Saturday condemned the bloody clashes and asked his subjects to desist from engaging in such tribal conflicts.
