
One student of Bubaare Secondary School in Kabale district died and four were seriously injured in a violent strike on Sunday.
The students were reportedly protesting the poor quality of the food served at the school as well as the transfer of their teachers.
Wycliffe Turyamutunga 15, a Senior Three student from Isingiro district died at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital where he was rushed together with colleagues who sustained serious injuries in the fight.
The students are said to have gone on rampage accusing the education ministry of transferring their favorite teachers including one Stanly Owoyesiga, a biology teacher who was transferred to Kigezi High School.
Reports also indicate that the students were protesting against being served little food which is also poor quality.
When the strike broke out, the administrators immediately summoned police which deployed around the school.
The students decided to attack neighboring villages, and the locals turned against them and beat them up, seriously injuring five, one of whom passed away on Monday evening at the Kabale regional referral hospital.
Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson said investigations in the incident are still running.
Jimmy Twinomugisha, the head teacher when contacted about the incident hung up the phone and switched it off.
