A Christian has dragged the Kampala Catholic Archdiocese before Commercial Court for failure to pay him Shs 130m, accruing from the sale of a piece of land in Nsambya parish.

In his documents filed in court, Stephen Mukasa states that he is the lawful owner of the land at Nsambya Kibuga, measuring 0.24 acres – having leased it until 2021.

He says when the church expressed interest in buying it; he entered into negotiations with it and agreed to sell the land.

Mukasa adds that in May 2015 he sold the land to the Archdiocese at Shs. 230 million, which was to be paid into two installments.

However, court documents indicate that the church in June last year  only paid 130million shillings leaving a balance of 130millions which the church has failed to pay to date despite Mukasa’s relentless reminders.

Mukasa now wants court to compel the diocese to pay the said balance because his family is now homeless having, demolished his house to give vacant possession to the church to develop its land.

The High Court Registrar Thaddeus Opesene has issued out criminal summons against Kampala Arch-diocese to respond to these claims within 15 days.
