Security has been beefed up at Constitutional Court at Twed Plaza, Nakasero where the jailed former FDC Presidential candidate Col Dr Kiiza Besigye was summoned together with other FDC Leaders to participate in the hearing of an application filed by government, seeking a permanent ban on their “defiance campaign”
The application is being heard by a single judge who is also the Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma.
Through Thursday morning, security was tightened around the court, as the Anti riot Police and the Military Police scanned the premises. Also, all roads leading to the Building have been closed.
All vehicles coming from Wandegeya were not allowed to join Kafu Road where the court is situated unless it is a government vehicle.
The road was also cut off at the Fairway roundabout by police patrol trucks while several heavily armed police men stood on the roadside.
Many people who had different cases before the High Court and other business at Twed have been denied entry. Only those with proper identification were allowed inside the building.
By publication time, Besigye who is on remand in Luzira on Treason charges had not been brought to the court.
Yesterday Prosecution refused to present Dr Besigye before the Nakawa Magistrates court for the Treason case, citing security reasons.
