Details have emerged of an uncommon piece of attire that punctuated Tuesday’s State of the Nation address at the Kampala Serena.
A number of Members of Parliament and officials from the ruling NRM party were seen donning the jacket uniforms designed in the colors of the Uganda National Flag.
Among those in this strange uniform were the Vice President HE Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi and Government Chief Whip Hon Ruth Nankabirwa.
The latter is the one who sold the idea to the rest of the MPs. Hon Nankabirwa told Chimpreports that the attire has just been introduced and will be available for more interested Members, ministers and other government officials.
The purpose of the jacket she said is to serve as a uniform to be donned by the MPs and ministers at such national functions, and also when attending international conferences and other functions, “for easy identification.”
She revealed that a piece of this jacket goes for USD 300 at the moment, adding that it is woven and not printed, hence the price.
The attire Nankabirwa said has been designed by a German based Ugandan only identified as Kasumba, who is also her friend and former schoolmate.
“At the moment the jackets are coming from Germany but if any Ugandan comes up and is able to make them for us, we’ll give them the opportunity,” she said.
