A source inside police in the Rwenzori region has informed us that the exchange that resulted in the shooting capture on tape by media; was in retaliation of a previous attack by civilians on a military vehicle.
Police together with the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces officers yesterday shot dead four people who were reportedly trying to grab guns from them.
The four have been identified as Nason Sagini, Isaleri Kake, James Wayakwa and Musale Bwambale Kiremberwa, all residents of Buhuhira Sub County.
These according to the Rwenzori East Regional Police Commander Bob Kagarura, had tried to snatch a machine gun from one of the officers on patrol. An officer only identified as Thembo was injured with a machete in the scuffle.
Chimpreports understands that the armed officers marched into Kisenyi trading center, looking for a group of 20 people who had orchestrated another attack on a UPDF army patrol vehicle in Kikonzo cell, Hima Town Council, Kabarole District on Thursday.
“These were armed with pangas, knives and spears. Soldiers fired gunshots to prevent the group from seizing the vehicle and the weapons. Two of the attackers were shot dead in a scuffle that left four soldiers injured,” revealed the source.
During the night on the same day, another group according to our source, sneaked into the barracks and stabbed four officers.
Police believes that those who were shot dead yesterday are all members of the Rwenzururu Kingdom royal guards that protect Kingdom’s sites around Kasese town.
Witnesses say police accused these guards of conducting the Thursday attack on UPDF in Hima.
Police and the army have since heavily deployed and taken over Hima town. There are reports that the town is deserted and schools closed.
