Inspector General of Police has allayed Forum for Democratic Change fears that their National Mobilization Secretary Mrs. Ingrid Turinawe could be in harm’s way, having gone missing for hours.

The opposition party raised the red flag this morning that Mrs. Turinawe’s whereabouts were unknown, having been picked up from her house last night.

The IGP while addressing press at the Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday evening revealed that the FDC Iron lady was in police custody together with other party leaders including Harold Kaija, the Deputy Secretary General who was picked up at the party headquarters this morning.

“Ingrid was arrested, it’s true; she is in our custody,” revealed the police boss without giving much details.

“The CID is processing possible charges and these will be presented before the Directorate of Public Prosecution for consideration.”

Kayihura said police had evidence that Ingrid together with Kaija were involved in a number of crimes. “You ask yourself, why them and not someone else?” He added.

Meanwhile, the IGP dispelled reports that several opposition leaders including the Kampala Lord Mayor a number of MPs were being placed under house arrest by police.

He noted that these are only being prevented from engaging in the banned FDC defiance campaign as well as undermining the looming inauguration ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni.

“The good thing is that we have a court order which stopped these activities. The constitution obliges state organs to support courts to enforce these orders because courts don’t have an enforcement mechanism.”

He added, “This is not house arrest as you are referring to it; we are simply taking precautionary measures by closely monitoring them. That’s why we are in these uniforms, to detect and stop those who pose danger to national security.

“We in any case don’t invite ourselves to your premises. It is you who invite us when you engage in criminal activity. Why do you violate the law?”
