Government is mulling declaring Thursday May 12th, when President elect Yoweri Museveni will be sworn in a public holiday.
ChimpReports has exclusively learnt that the Minister for Presidency and KCCA Frank Tumwebaze was supposed to include this declaration in his press address on Monday Morning but the formal arrangements were not yet concluded.
We have also established that a letter was written by the Presidency to the Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda at the end of last week for him to communicate to the Ministry of Public Service to have Thursday secured.
The Presidency is however still waiting for a feedback from the Prime Minister before making it public.
When contacted on phone Tuwebaze confirmed the development but added that they are still waiting for the confirmation.
“We have the arrangement to make Thursday a more memorable day by also making it a public holiday. Many of the 5 million people who voted for the President want to attend but might be tied by their employment demands,” Tumwebaze said.
The swearing in is going to take place at Kololo Independent grounds under the theme ‘A firm foundation built for Uganda’s steady progress’.
The day’s program released by the minister today indicates that the function will begin at 7:00am with the arrival of invited guests, who include out-going and in-coming members of parliament, political party leaders, former presidential candidates, delegations from all the districts, members of the diplomatic corp, religious leaders, traditional and cultural leaders, members of the academia, and the business community among others.
The President Elect, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and First Lady and Minister for Karamoja Affairs Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni will arrive at 10:40am and the event subsequently kicks off.
