Kabarole district councilors have resolved to rent out the Youth Center building at Nyabukara in Boma to Kampala International University (KIU).
In January, 2015 President Yoweri Museveni commissioned the Kabarole Youth and Information Center but since then the building has not been put to use as government failed to equip it.
During the district consultative meeting for councilors held on Tuesday, it emerged that KIU had expressed interest in renting the Youth center to start a medical campus for 120 students.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that is yet to be signed by the two parties, KIU proprietor Basajjabalaba will rent the facility for two years and choose to renew the contract.
KIU will also train the Kabarole youths in computer skills and health services; erect a permanent perimeter wall and extend piped water to the facility.
The motion to rent out the facility was moved by Emmanuel Tugume, the councilor Kasenda Sub County who also proposed Shs1.5m per month considering the fact that KIU is renovating the building.
Joseph Mashuhuko from Karambi considered the idea as a blessing to the district since the abandoned youth center has been a burrow of criminal gangs.
Councilors finally resolved that income generated be injected in youth projects to enhance their income and the draft of the MoU be presented to council for approval before being taken to the Solicitor General.
