Police in Ibanda district is holding two men who have been extorting  money from drug shops and clinic operators claiming to be National Drug Authority inspectors.

The Ibanda district police commander Denis Ochama identified the suspects as Godwin Tweyambe 33, a former primary school teacher who hails from Kitagata in Sheema district and Mozey Rugaaju Kiiza 35, a resident of Mbarara an office attendant at Mbarara Municipal council.

Ochama said the extortionists were arrested in Nyamarebe sub-county in Ibanda district after being reported in Ishongororo town council by vigilant locals.

Tweyambe was found with an Identity card of national drug authority number 081 designating him as an inspector of drugs which was issued on 11th January 2017 to expire in 2019.

During interrogations, he testified to have forged the said ID from Nasser road in Kampala after failing to get one from Mbarara.

The two were using Suzuki Vitara Reg. Number UAG 941N belonging to Mozey Rugaaju who told police that he was on a contract with Godwin to transport him to the failed mission for Shs 470,000 and had already given him a deposit of UGX 320,000.

The Ibanda DPC told Chimpreports that the duo had solicited more than UGX 400,000 from different clinics and drug shop operators in Ibanda, after threatening them with closure when they didn’t meet NDA regulations.
