
Hearing of the interim injunction where activists Tumuhimbise Norman and Trumpet Uganda Limited are challenging Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) directive of deactivating unregistered sim cards by 19th May 2017 has flopped, due to the absence of the Trial Judge, Justice Steven Musota
The deputy Registrar Alex Ajiiji adjourned the hearing of the injunction to Thursday 18th May, when the main application is also expected to be heard.
The UCC registration deadline will be a day later on May 19th.
In this application filed by Counsel Eron Kiiza on behalf of Tumuhimbiise Norman and Rights Trumpet Limited, they want court to declare that UCC’s Directive which necessitates mobile subscribers to update their sim card registration information or have them de activated as unreasonable, illegal and a threat to the human and other rights of the subscribers to fair and dignified treatment
In the same application they challenge UCC’s directive allowing foreigners to use their passports’ in the registration exercise while prohibiting Ugandans from using their passports.
