Rev. Venerable Edward Mwesigwa, the Nyabirerema Archdeacon was dragged to police for neglecting a teenage boy he fathered.

The boy’s mother Winnie Atusasire 35, a resident of Murandano cell, Butanda Sub County in Kabale reported the case at Kabale Police Station accusing Venerable Mwesigwa of refusing to provide for their son.

Atusasire claims she had forced sex with the man of God on 24th November 2002; who was then serving as the Parish Priest of Rubaya Church of Uganda.

She says she had gone to pick balls to use in church sports activities as the youth leader for Murandano C.o.U in Rukore Archdeaconry, at the time she was raped.

Atusasire says Mwesigwa first convinced her to wait in the sitting room as someone brought the key to the room where the balls were and that while they were waiting he pounced on her and raped her.

She says afterwards he apologize and pleaded for her to keep it a secret so he doesn’t lose his job.

When she became pregnant and gave birth however, she says, Mwesigwa abandoned her. She says she only received from him was a baby shawl worth Shs 20,000 when the baby was going for baptism.

Atusasire says despite approaching Mwesigwa several times seeking help, he has remained adamant, prompting her to involve the police.

She says she went to the office of the Kigezi Diocesan Secretary Rev. Canon Obed Turihohabwe, who referred her to the police.

The said boy is now in P7, but Atusasire says she is struggling with the school fees and other essentials since she is unemployed.

ASP Elizabeth Ainembabazi The officer-in-charge of child and Family Protection Department at Kabale police station confirmed registration of the case number SD21/08/05/2017 and that they have already issued summons to Mwesigwa.

However, when contacted, Reverend Venerable Mwesigwa refuted the accusations as totally false and denied seeing any police summons.
