Residents of Rwamucucu Sub County in Kabale district that were hit by landslides in March 2017 have received relief aid from the Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Major General Saverino Kahinda Otafiire.

The sub county was on March 24 devastated by landslides that left gardens of crops as well as people’s houses swept away.

One Kamusiime Muhwezi, a business woman in Mukono district who hails from Rukiga County took an initiative to donate 1.5 tons of Posho to the most affected residents.

The lady has now been supported by Minister Kahinda Otafiire to make this happen.

Otafiire, while handing over the bags of relief food said he decided to come it to help after hearing the plight of the residents from Kamusiime.

He also said he felt the urge to lend a helping hand, realizing that the area Member of Parliament Hon Herbert Kabafunzaki is currently in deep waters, having been implicated last month in a corruption scandal.

General Otafiire promised the locals that he would get in touch with Ministry of Disaster Preparedness to get more support for them.

According to Bernard Muzaare, the chairperson LCII Nyarurambi parish, over 100 animals were killed by the natural disaster; several acres of crops and houses were also destroyed

He says the most affected villages included Katare, Katooma, Nyakatugunda, Nyakagyera and Kakunzi.
