Parliament is today April 4 resuming business, having been on recess since March 16.

The Clerk to Parliament, Jane Kibirige last week issued a note calling Members to report for the first sitting of the 3rd meeting of the 1st session of the 10th Parliament.

According to the order paper released Monday evening, Parliament is expected to among others discuss Uganda’s position regarding the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Some of the African Countries under AU have in the recent past proposed withdrawal of their membership from the ICC with claims that the Court seems to target only African leaders.

President Museveni has on many occasions called out the international tribunal as a toothless dog, which cannot touch other despots and criminals outside Africa.

The Ugandan opposition believes President Museveni is the architect of the ploy for the African Union to quit the ICC.

On the floor of the House today, the Attorney General is expected to present a statement on the position of Uganda regarding ICC.

Meanwhile, Parliament will among others receive an information paper from the Ministry of Health on screening and testing government leaders for prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.

The house will as well receive bills for the first reading which include; The Lotteries and Gaming (Amendment) Bill, 2017, the Income Tax (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2017, the Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2017, the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2017 and  the Tax Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill, 2017 presented by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
