The Member of Parliament for Kibale in Kamwenge district Eng. Cuthbert Mirembe Abigaba has adopted Stella Nyanzi’s idea of donating sanitary pads to school girls.
The MP says he took action after realizing the trouble of poor teenage girls, some of who have been compelled to drop out of school because of menstruation.
He said in 2015 he witnessed school girls plucking their books to use as sanitary towels.
Government has since failed to fulfill its promise of providing sanitary pads to all school going children, owing to lack of resources.
The MP donated a 4 in 1 kit that is reusable for 12 months, valued at 5 Euros or Shs .16,000 each, to Kahunge Primary School girls.
He says the donation drive will run in all the 6 sub-counties of Kibale County covering Kamwenge Town Council, Kabambiro sub-county, part of Kamwenge sub-county, Busiriba sub-county, Kahunge Town council and part of Kahunge Sub-county.
Hon. Mirembe hailed AFRI pads which supported him in this impactful donation and support to the plight of the girl child in Kibale County.
The Sanitary drive was recently started by Makerere University Lecturer Dr Stella Nyanzi after she furiously attacked the First Lady and Education Minister on social media.
The campaign has also been adopted by the opposition From for Democratic Change’s Women’s League.
