Kamuli district leadership and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry have organized the launch of robust commercial agriculture projects to boost development in the eastern district.
The Kamuli LCV Chairman, Thomas Kategere told ChimpReports on Tuesday that poverty in the district and the whole eastern region can be alleviated since people have the land and that the only task is to capably utilize it.
“We are going to launch economic transformation engine on the 12th of 04 2017. Our people have the land and they only need to be sensitized and supported,” Kategere said.
He explained that the focus is mainly on the cash crops and other lucrative activities like bee rearing and harvest of honey.
“Our focus will be on farmers ready to plant 2 acres of coffee, 1 acre of cocoa and also put up at least 20 beehives for honey.”
According to the district Chairman, 3,700 famers have already been mobilized though their ultimate target was to kick start with 7,000 farmers.
The Agriculture Minister, Vincent Sempijja is expected to grace the launch and explain to farmers and leaders how the projects can best be achieved.
2nd Deputy Prime Minister, Kirunda Kivejinja is expected as Guest of Honor.
