The Ministry of health is set to distribute Mosquito nets to the people in Eastern Uganda, in the third wave of the distribution program.

The districts to get nets are Buliisa, Kiryandongo, Masindi, Ntoroko, Bukwo, Kapchwora, Kween, Bugiri, Busia, Butaleja, Buyende, Iganga, Jinja, Kaliro, Kamuli, Kibuku, Luuka, Mayuge, Mbale, Namayingo, Namutumba, Pallisa and Tororo.

Junior health minister Sarah Opendi says registration of households in the beneficiary districts will take place in the second week of April, while the distribution will follow on May 10th 2017.

The program has been ongoing since February 17th 2017 when it was launched; starting with areas with the highest prevalence.

The minister reassured at a press conference today that all parts of the country will be covered.

Opendi stressed that only those registered will receive the nets and urged all Ugandans to use the chance and register.

The program will be implemented in six waves based on the current Malaria prevalence. Each wave has an average of 22 districts apart from the sixth wave which comprises of only Kampala and Wakiso.

“The first wave covered the West Nile, second wave Northern Uganda, third North and Eastern part, fourth Middle West, fifth western and then sixth central Uganda, said the minister”

The distribution of nets directly responds to the Uganda Malaria Reduction Strategic Plan (UMRSP), strategic objective of achieving and sustaining protection of at least 85% of the population at risk through recommended malaria prevention measures by 2017.
