Parliament has Friday paid tribute to one of their own, Cyrus Amodoi Imalingat the former Member of Parliament of Toroma County, Katakwi District who died in an accident at Kitigoma along Kampala-Jinja highway on Tuesday 14.
A motion to pay tribute was moved by Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and seconded by the Leader of Opposition who was represented by the Deputy Opposition Whip, Roland Mugume.
The Prime Minister noted the country had lost a gallant son who diligently served his country as an educationist and military professional whose aspiration was to see a harmonious, peaceful and better society that is empowered in all spheres of life.
“Hon. Amodoi has been a diligent legislator who has served Uganda with dedication and patriotism; he has served on various parliament committees including, Defense and Internal Affairs, Human Rights, Government Assurance, Tourism, Trade and Industry,” Rugunda said.
Amodoi was born on June 1, 1979 to Alfred Imalingat and Isinge Imalingat in Kanapa Village, Toroma County, Katakwi District.
He attended Magoro Primary school, Gadhafi Primary school and Nakalama Primary school from where he joined Kings Secondary School in Iganga for his O’level and later to Iganga Progressive Academy for Advanced level.
The late later joined Makerere University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.
“Hon. Amodo first served as a teacher and later joined the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces in 2005, because of his dedicated and outstanding performance in service, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in September 2006 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in October 2008,” Rugunda noted.
Acting LOP Roland Mugume expressed dismay over the poor road designs and state of highways which have claimed lives of countless Ugandans in accidents.
Mugume lamented that the very poor roads that the late Amodoi talked about are the same that took his life.
MP Aja Baryayanga said that the late Amodoi always advised Members of Parliament to work for their constituencies and had dedicated his life to serving his voters.
It is reported that at the time of his death, Amodoi had given away his car to the district to organize for the Women’s Day celebrations which were to be conducted on Wednesday.
