Nakawa MP Michael Kabaziguruka has called for an in-depth investigation into the gruesome murder of police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
“It’s sad to lose a life of such a young officer,” said Kabaziguruka at the crime scene in Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb.
“This act spells doom and gloom,” he noted, adding, “If thugs can attack a person of Assistant Inspector General of Police who has security, what about the common man?”
“I urged the police leadership to investigate this incident and other criminal incidents to bring the culprits to book.”
Kaweesi was shot in the early morning hours of Friday by unknown gunmen shortly after leaving his residence.
Police have since sealed off the crime scene as forensic experts comb the area for clues into the shocking murder.
Senior security officials including IGP Gen Kale Kayihura and CMI boss Col Kandiho are at the scene to facilitate investigations.
Police Counter Terrorism chiefs such as John Ndugutse and ISO spies are coordinating the probe into one of the most heinous murders in recent years.
Hundreds of spectators swarmed Kulambiro for a glimpse of the blood-soaked scene.
As we write this, the bodies of Kaweesi, his driver and escort are being taken to a mortuary for post-mortem.
Kabaziguruka described the shooting as “gruesome, horrible and regrettable.”
Security Minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde is currently in a meeting with Gen Kayihura.
Police are expected to provide an extensive press conference later in the day.
