Vipers have one foot into the next round of the CAF Confederation cup after a narrow victory against Platinum stars in the first leg of the first round phase played at St. Mary’s stadium on Saturday.
Despite creating several chances, it is only Milton Karisa who found the back of the net with a 46th minute header off Nicholas Wadada’s cross that eventually turned out to be the deciding moment.
New coach Jorge Miguel Da Costa insists Vipers have the ability to go and get a good result in South Africa if their efficiency especially in the final third is improved.
Da Costa who was appointed last week applauded the team for a great performance on Saturday but believes they can do more.
“The victory we got was out of a collective effort, the fans, players and the technical team all played a role,” he stated after the game on Sunday.
“I believe we have a great team with talented players and I’m confident we can get victory in the return leg,” added Costa.
The outspoken Portuguese tactician however called for more effectiveness going forward to make sure they can score as many goals as they can.
“We have to be more ruthless in the final third, we had many chances to kill off them but failed to put them away. Our task is now to make sure we correct the mistakes we had here before the return leg,” he indicated.
The two sides meet for the return leg at the Royal Bafokerg stadium on 18th March 2017 and the winner on aggregate will advance to the second round stage.
