Police in Mbarara has in detention 9 FDC supporters who were arrested last evening allegedly trying to block roads in the municipality.
Yassini Matsiko, the FDC Chairperson for in Nyamitanga Division told Chimpreports that his colleagues were picked from Liverpool House and others from Mbarara Independence Grounds.
He said that Police initially arrested 15 but while taking them to Mbarara Police station, some escaped from the truck and vanished in the bushes.
The 9 who remain in police custody at the regional police station are waiting for trial according to authorities.
Among the arrested was FDC’s publicity secretary for the western region, one Peter Byamukama.
During today’s weekly FDC prayers conducted at the party offices In Mbarara town, the supporters prayed for the release of their colleagues.
According to the Mbarara DPC Jaffar Magyezi, police obtained information that the arrested were moving to close the Masaka-Mbarara, Kabale-Mbarara and Mbarara-Bushenyi roads.
He noted that the arrested will be taken to court as the hunt for those who escaped carries on.
