Bright stars 1-1 Soana
Bright stars needed a late penalty to avoid a loss against Soana in the Uganda premier league game played at the champions stadium, Mwererwe on Saturday.
An own goal by Bright stars defender, Innocent Asiimwe gave the visitors the lead but defender Sula Ssebunza stepped up to convert from the spot kick to salvage a point for Fred Kajjoba’s charges.
Bright stars made three changes from the team that won against Lweza last week with Hakim Mugerwa, Abdunoor Kanana and Seif Batte starting.
Mugerwa repaced Andrew Kaggwa at the right back position while Kanana who was played his first game since the start of the second round played ahead of Aksam Mutyaba in central defence.
Stocky and pacy winger cum striker Seif Batte who was relegated to the bench in the game against Lweza returned to the starting XI ahead of Farouk Banga.
Soana who were playing their second game in the second round took the lead in the 24th minute when defender Innocent Assimwe connected the ball into his own net.
Despite several attempts by the home side to level matters, Soana remained resilient at the back.
However, with the game destined towards the end, Bright stars were awarded a late penalty after substitute Samson Jakech was fouled inside the 18 yard box.
Defender Ssula Ssebunza held his nerves to convert from the resultant penalty in added time for Bright stars to walk away with at least a point.
Soana moved one place up on the table to 6th just like Bright stars who follow closely in 7th both on 25 points.
