CAF champions league
KCCA FC 1-0 Primeiro Agosto

Geoffrey Sserunkuma’s second half header was enough for KCCA football club to have an edge over Club Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto.

Sserunkuma headed home Brian Majwega’s cross from a corner at the start of the second half and that turned out to be the deciding moment of the first leg of the preliminary round game played at Phillip Omondi stadium on Friday.

In a game of two halves, Agosto dominated the proceedings in the opening 45 minutes but failed to utilise the numerous chances they created and KCCA FC returned recharged after recess to eventually earn victory.

Dorivaldo Dias had the first attempt at goal in the 6th but his feeble shot was easily collected by goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan.

The visitors kept pilling pressure and Salmao Trocco had another chance six minutes later but failed to find the target with his shot sailing over.

KCCA’s first attempt at goal came in the 18th minute with Joseph Ochaya powering a thunderous effort off the left flank but goalkeeper Joadquin Cabaca stretched to save.

Agosto had another attempt to break the deadlock when Diaz Dorivaldo won possession from Habib Kavuma but combative midfielder Isaac Ntege made a timely interception to clear out of danger.

Sserunkuma broke the deadlock five minutes after recess jumping high to head home Brian Majwega’s cross from a corner.

Majwega had replaced Derrick Nsibambi at the start of the second half.

Defender Awany almost caused trouble to KCCA FC when he headed back a ball to goalkeeper Ochan who had moved off the line but the shot stopper was swift enough to tip the ball over.

Joseph Ochaya was denied by the post when his powerful effort ricocheted off the base of the goal post to go out.

The two sides will meet in a week’s time for the return leg in Comoros and the winner on aggregate will play against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
