Ferry services along Wanseko-Panyimur route in Buliisa and Nebbi Districts has been suspended over a confirmed outbreak of cholera in the area.

The development was revealed by the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), who are charged with the management and operation of ferries across the country.

“We have had to suspend ferry services along Wanseko-Panyimur route in Buliisa and Nebbi Districts respectively following confirmed symptoms of Cholera at Panyimur landing site- Nebbi,” UNRA said in a statement.

The statement indicates that health officials in Panyimur have confirmed that clear symptoms of Cholera have been observed in Nebbi, prompting the authority to suspend operations of the ferry.

“The ferry is on its way to Panyimur and once it docks, passengers will be disinfected and the ferry stopped until further notice from health officials. We are undertaking a proactive approach to stop operations for now till the risk is mitigated or until we are cleared to sail again,” the statement further reads.
