Harvard University Graduate Clare Akamanzi has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, Rwanda Development Board (RDB).
The Board brings together key Rwanda government agencies responsible for business registration, investment promotion, environmental clearances, privatization as well as specialist agencies which support the priority sectors of ICT and tourism as well as SMEs and human capacity development in the private sector.
She replaces Francis Gatare who now goes to Rwanda Mines and Petroleum Board.
Emmanuel Hategeka will serve as Chief Operations Officer (COO) RDB.
The new administration changes were contained in a cabinet decision document seen by ChimpReports on Saturday.
The Cabinet meeting which sat at Urugwiro Village in Kigali on January 3 was chaired by President Paul Kagame.
Akamanzi served as RDB COO and later Acting CEO before traveling to United States for a course at the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
On return, Akamanzi was deployed at the President’s Office as Head of Strategy and Policy.
Born and educated in Uganda, Akamanzi is the Chairperson, Board of Directors of Aviation, Travel and Logistics (ATL)- holding company that runs Rwandair, Kigali Airport and Akagera Aviation.
She served as Rwanda’s Trade Negotiator at World Trade Organisation, Geneva.
Akamanzi has an LLM in Trade and Investment from Pretoria, South Africa and LLB (Makerere University, Uganda).
She was named Young Global Leader, 2012.
