Uganda Premier League defending champions KCCA football club have on Thursday promoted six players from their junior side into the senior team.
While unveiling the players to the media at Phillip Omondi stadium, club head coach, Mike Mutebi indicated it is the right time for the team to put to use some of the products from their academy.
“As you are aware, KCCA FC is a team that grooms players like we have had Jackson Mayanja,Baker Charles Masiko and Baker Mbowa in the past,” he reminisced.
“Thus we have also decided to promote six of our players from the junior team into the senior side,” Mutebi stated. The players promoted include Kiiza Mustapha, Magambo Peter, Noel Nasasira Herbert Achaye,Poloto Julius and Allan Okello.
According to Mutebi, the players are the future of the club and thus it is important to integrate them with the senior players at a tender age. ”
These players were excellent in the U17 league and we believe they have surpassed that stage. We therefore as club thought it wise to add them to the main team,” he indicated.
Mutebi singled out midfielder Allan Okello who he believes he is the next big thing in Uganda’s football.
” I see gold in that young boy. The things he does on the ball are way beyond his age and if handled well he will be a great player for the country,” he said.
Asked about whether the new players will be able to fill the vacuum left by the players who have been let go either on loan or permanently, Mutebi stated that he feels the current team will ably compete.
“It’s true we have released many players but we took a bold decision as a club to give chance to youngsters. The dividends may not come soon but we are convinced they are ready for the stage, “said the coach.
