A witness has told court on Thursday that the vehicle which knocked dead Eria Eriya Bugembe Sebunya (Kasiwukira) dead belonged to Sandra Nakungu, his sister-in-law.
The 8th witness in the case Gabriel Kwetegesa, told court presided over by Justice Wilson Masalu-Musene that he bought the Pajero from Ms. Nakungu on October 27, 2014 about a fortnight after Kasiwukira’s death.
Sandra Nankugu is accused together with Kasiwukira’s widow Sarah Nabikolo, and a police officer Ashraf Jaden of hatching the murder.
Kwetegesa, a security officer attached to Sameer Agriculture and Livestock Limited testified that he first met Nakungu on October 16, when she came to their office seeking assistance on how to recover a milk tank which had been involved in an accident at Kammengo, along Masaka road and detained at Kammengo police station.
“We travelled to the Police Station with Nakungu using a Pajero car which was silver in color with a blue skirting registration number UAE O18A,” Kwetegesa testified.
The same vehicle which prosecution says was used in the murder; the witness said was at that time still in a perfect mechanical condition.
“Nakungu said she was looking for 2million shillings to repair the damaged milk truck and asked me to lend her the money. She offered me the Pajero as collateral.”
He says they agreed and signed an agreement that she had sold her the vehicle. This he says took place at a garage in Wandegeya where she handed him the car documents including the log book. In the agreed payment time he says, Nankungu was unable to raise the money and thus he assumed ownership.
In November 2014 Kwetegesa says he changed the tyres of the car and sold it off at 2 million shillings
Ssekibuule George Wilson, who purchased the Pajero before it was seized by investigators of the case, also testified in court, collaborating the first witness’s account.
He said that on November 19th 2014 he was intercepted by Police officers in civilian attire who informed him that they wanted him to surrender his car since it had been used in committing an offense and was needed at CIID Headquarters in Kibuli.
Also in court was another witness Bengo Lawrence, Nankungu’s car mechanic who confirmed that she was the owner of the Pajero.
Prosecution has lined up 30 witnesses for this case, 11 of which have testified. Justice Masalu Musene adjourned further hearing of the case to 18th April 2016.
