The Democratic Party Chairperson for Rwampara County in Mbarara District has been murdered and his body dumped in a farm.
The deceased Apollo Karibita, aged 54, went missing on 26th December 2016 and his wife reported the disappearance the following day at Mwizi Police Post.
His body however, was recovered on Wednesday December 28th in a farm in Karamurani cell, Mwizi sub County, Rwampara County during a search mounted by local residents led by the LC 1 Chairman.
Karibita is believed to have been strangled to death by the assailants using a rope.
The DPC Mbarara Jaffar Magyezi said police is working closely with the bereaved family and Democratic Party leaders to ensure that the murderers are apprehended and taken to court on charges of murder.
However, he said no arrests have been made so far, stressing that investigations are still ongoing.
While speaking on phone with Chimpreports, the DP vice president in western region Imam Makumbi said the opposition party had lost a major pillar in the district and the country as a whole.
“I would like to condemn the thugs who have been murdering our party leaders all around the country; as DP leaders we would like to call upon national security organs to take on this matter because it is becoming serous,|” Makumbi said.
