The Executive Director of Uganda Media Center, Ofwono Opondo has said the “violent” nature of opposition top figure Dr. Kizza Besigye will continue to deny him support from critical sections of the population.
According to Ofwono a research done by the ruling National Resistance Movement strategists found out that women, wealthy people and the elderly who are the biggest beneficiaries of peace, will never back the FDC founder owing to his aggressive tone.
“Our studies in NRM have realized that the women, propertied Ugandans and the elderly are strongly opposed to Dr. Besigye’s violent approach of politics and they will never support him,”
Ofwono said on Thursday evening while appearing on the NBS’s Frontline. “The biggest majority of Besigye’s supporters are unemployed rowdy youths who have nothing to lose in case of violence. They enjoy destruction but there are Ugandans who want peace,” he added.
When contacted on phone, the FDC Deputy Secretary General, Harold Kaija said Ofwono was only doing propaganda since the strongest women in politics in Uganda are from FDC and staunch allies of Dr. Besigye.
“The greatest female names in Uganda politics like Ingrid Turinawe, Salam Musumba and many others are from FDC. The videos of Dr. Besigye’s campaigns are out there for anyone to see how women support him,” Mr. Kaija said.
He added that there are no wealthy people in Uganda but rather agents of the State and government officials.
“There are no rich people in people in Uganda. Those we see are their agents who definitely support them. NRM is anti-development and ever ready to crush any opposition leaning business person. They are also anti women; that is why we lose 16 women daily in labor wards,” he added.
