Leaders in the Kasese region have blamed senior officials Maj. Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi and Minister Crispus Kiyonga, who both hail from the same region, for sitting back as locals continue to butcher each other in the ongoing political-cultural rivalry.
The brawl, which analysts insist is between two rival tribal groups Bakonjo and Basongora, has left more than 40 locals murdered in cold blood, as well as police and army personnel.
Gen. Mbadi, the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF’s) Joint Chief of Staff is a Musongora while Defense Minister Crispus Kiyonga is a Mukonjo.
This morning, Hon. William Nzoghu the Member of Parliament for Busongora North Constituency in Kasese district attacked the two leaders for sitting in silence in Kampala as their tribesmen finished each other.
Hon. Nzoghu said the two could have used their big offices to make an intervention to stop the bloodletting.
”Mbadi is the Chief of Staff, but he has not made a single step to assist in this situation. Even Kiyonga who’s docket is directly concerned with this kind of crisis is also watching on the fence,” fumed the MP.
In 2014 in the heat of similar clashes in the region which left over 100 people dead, Minister Kiyonga came out and called for establishment of a joint committee to find a lasting solution to the crisis..
