Following the appearance of presidential advisor on media affairs Mr. Tamale Mirundi in High Court as one of the sureties for Hajji Muhammad Sebuwufu the patron of Pine Car Bond who is facing murder charges; many people were left wondering what kind of relationship existed between the two.

Mirundi yesterday opened up on the reasons he felt obliged to assist Mr Sebuwufu, who last year allegedly murdered one of his customers Donah Katushabe.

The bail has since been denied by High Court judge justice Masalu Museni, who said it would be unfair to release Sebuwufu while his four accomplices languished in prison.

Appearing on one of his weekly talk shows at a local radio station, Mirundi revealed that offering to stand surety for Sebuwufu, he was fulfilling the responsibility which the latter’s late mother left him.

“Sebuwufu’s mother was seriously sick and one day we went with him to visit her at Mulago Hospital where she was admitted, and she requested me never to abandon her child in whatever situation,” Mirundi said.

The two he said, have also been close business friends to the extent that in all of his three homes there is a car he bought from Sebuwufu’s bond.

He noted however, that he had suspected that his friend would not be granted bail by the court. “The moment I received information that Sebuwufu had not submitted any medical forms regarding his health from another hospital ,and none from Luzira where he is on detention, I realized that he had been conned,” he said.

Sebuwufu last week applied for bail basing on a number of grounds which included his poor health (that he has epilepsy) and that he has a lot of family responsibilities.

He presented three sureties who included Mr Tamale Mirundi, Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata Batte and Mr Jumba Mathias.

However, Justice Musene declined  this request, stating that Sebuwufu’s offence carried a maximum sentence  and that it would look unfair to let him loose when the other for with whom he is accused remain in Luzira.
