The NRM Electoral Commission under the Chairmanship of Dr, Tanga Odoi has released a tentative road map for the LC 1 and 2 primaries which will take place early next year.
Government recently revealed that preparations for the LC1 and LC2 elections are in final stages.
Dr. Odoi told the media on Friday that the NRM held its primaries for LC1 Chairperson in 2015, “We already have flag bearers in all the villages in Uganda.”
“While NRM EC oversaw election of flag bearers for all the villages in the country, some positions have since fallen vacant as a result of deaths, change of residence, progression to higher levels, gainful employment and loss of interest,” Odoi said.
Because of these he said, the party will go through all villages to identify the gaps and fill them before facing off with other political parties in 2017.
“Tuesday 20th to Wednesday 21, Dec 2016, we shall go on a full verification exercise throughout the country to verify whether the flag bearers still exist.
“Wednesday 28th to Friday 30th Dec 2016, we shall display and update voter registers; we shall also have voter education and institute tribunals which lead with areas of conflict.
“Thursday 5th to 6th, January 2017, we shall have nominations of our LC1 candidates and roll the campaigns and hold primaries and announce the results.”
“Friday 6th to 9th, we shall deal with conflict resolution if any. All these dates depend on the National Electoral Commission, if they make any adjustments, we shall also make but we can’t just sit and wait for them, we are a party and ought to be prepared.”
