The Federation of Uganda Football Association have on Monday launched the 2016 Airtel FUFA awards slated to take place on 2nd December at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
Telecommunication company, Airtel have supported this year’s awards gala with Shs 100M while Canaan Sites properties will provide land titles to the runners up in two categories.
The other sponsors include Konka electronics who will provide Television sets and Smart phones for winners in the different categories.
The official launch of the awards held at Kamapala Serena Hotel, was attended by Fufa President,Engineer Moses Magogo who indicated it is good to reward people who have worked hard and achieved.
“After having a successful 2015 where we achieved a lot of things, we thought it would be wise to continue with the trend this year which has brought more success including qualifying for African cup of Nations,” said Magogo
” Awards are a means of rewarding someone who has achieved and as FUFA we shall yet again use this year’s awards to recognise the outstanding individuals,’ he added.
According to the third Fufa Vice President, Dennis Mbidde who will serve as the chairman awards organising committee, said the intention of the awards is uplift the status of those players that have excelled in that particular year.
“We believe such awards motivate and encourage players to perform better but they also uplift their status. Miya Farouk and Sandra Nabweteme didn’t stay the same after winning last year’s accolades,” said Mbidde.
This year’s awards will have 10 categories and the winners in the male player of the year category and female player of the year category will drive away with a brand new Toyota Lexus and Toyota Spacio respectively.
Meanwhile the runners up in the categories mentioned above will be rewarded with land titles.
Sandra Nabweteme was crowned last year’s winner in the female category after guiding Kawempe Muslim to winning the inaugural Fufa Women’s elite league while Farouk Miya won the Fufa male player of the year award after helping Vipers win the 2015/16 Uganda premier league.
