President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has compared the former Rukiga County  legislator Jack Crissy Sabiiti to couch grass, locally known as orumbugu.

While addressing a rally at Kyerero Primary playground in Kyerero Parish –Bukinda sub county, The president said Sabiiti became “dangerous to the people of Rukiga” when he  determined to only sabotage programs of the ruling National Resistance Movement.

President Museveni said Sabiti was as dangerous as the couch grass weed is to crops. He however praised the locals for eventually voting the opposition FDC stalwart out of office in the last election. Sabiiti has since announced that he quit elective politics.

“I would like to thank the people of Rukiga for rejecting that man Jack Sabiiti who had turned into couch grass in the development of the country,” said the President.

Jack Sabiiti, a member of the FDC lost his Rukiga county seat to the Herbert Kabafunzaki of the National Resistance Movement in the 2016 general elections. The latter was subsequently appointed State Minister for Labor, Employment and Industrial Relations.

In June while attending a local wedding in Kabale, Museveni said that part of the reason he appointed Kabafunzaki Minister was to thank him and the people of Rukiga for uprooting Sabiiti.

He said, ““Sometime back I was in Wakiso where I met this young man Kabafunzaki who was doing a lot of development work. I asked him to come to Rukiga and rescue the Constituency that was in the hands of the opposition.”

“That’s why after defeating Sabiiti, I appointed Kabafunzaki State Minister Of Labor, Employment and Industrial Relations as a way of rewarding the people of Rukiga,” said President Museveni.
