Uganda Police put up a stunt packed exhibition, showcasing its different equipment and tactics used to combat crime in the Force’s day to day operations.
While marking its maiden cerebrations marking Police Day held Monday at Kololo Independence grounds in an event presided over by President Yoweri Museveni, Police gave the public an insight its capacity thus far in addition to typical crime and rescue missions.
As always, the officers did their well displayed march after the President had inspected a guard of honor as is the custom.
Then followed the departments of traffic and road safety, welfare, ICT and communication, all of which showcased their tools of service and contribution to the Uganda Police Force.
A fleet of motor equipment including a grader and a concrete mixer used by the Logistics and Engineering unit were also displayed.
Early this year, the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura made a commitment to create capacity within the Force to undertake the construction of housing units and other civil works.
The highlight at Monday’s celebration was however the staged replication of typical on duty scenarios by the Presidential Protection Guard and Counter Terrorism Air units.
The former did a rescue mission after an attempted attack on the President while the latter showed how to neutralize and disarm a terrorist using both air support (chopper and paratroopers) and an armoured vehicle.
A crowd of hundreds of people cheered and ululated as the police officers displayed these tactics.
Other units that participated in the exhibition were; the Child and Family department, Field Force Police, CID Forensics Unit, Marine Unit, Canine and Fire Brigade units.
