The High Court’s Family Division has granted the termination of the marriage of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya and his estranged wife Winnie Amoo Oulanya.

The couple reached before Justice Alexandria Rugadya Nkonge, that nothing more could be done to redeem their 3 year marriage.

In his judgment read by Deputy Registrar Justine Atukwase, Justice Nkonge handed the two children’s custody to their mother Ms Amoo.

He also ordered Speaker Oulanyah, to make prior notice before visiting them. Oulanyah is also to pay a monthly maintenance fee of USD 690 to help provide care for the young ones now living with their mother in the US. This fee is expected to cater for clothing, food, gasoline and utilities of these kids

The Judge trimmed this fee from USD 4500 which Mrs. Amoo had asked for, on grounds that she failed to prove the cost of her house in San Diego and didn’t attach any school fees pay slips showing the
amounts paid by the children at schools.

In 2015 Deputy Speaker Oulanya petitioned court seeking orders to formally dissolve his marriage  to Amoo whom he accuses of abandoning their marital home for USA and violating his conjugal rights.

In response to his petition, Amoo supported their separation on grounds of what she termed as irreconcilable differences, adultery and psychological abuse citing an incident when Oulanya forced her to wear a linen that allegedly belonged  to his late wife.

Amoo added that it was this physiological torture among other factors that forced her to go abroad and abandon her matrimonial home in Uganda
