The powerful intelligence chief, who was recently arrested in London by UK authorities on contested charges of committing crimes in DRC and Northern Rwanda as RPF consolidated its hold on power after ousting the genocide regime in 1994, was replaced by the army spokesperson Brig Joseph Nzabamwita.

According to a Tuesday statement from the president’s office, Karenzi will now serve as Defence and Security Advisor to Kagame.
